Managing the Thin-ness

November 27, 2022 by jude

The change of season has revealed the small basket feeder I hung on the fence in early spring.  I forgot it was there.  The summer growth had woven another basket around it.  It became a nest.  It’s the time of year for seeing through. I remind myself that design is a kind of mending. This cloth, The Mother-Ring, is so thin, unstable, worn, stained, reworked, holding but useful maybe only for looking.   I made some changes.  Folded the edge in […]

three things this morning

September 26, 2022 by jude

The shift has taken hold. The Indigo has gone to seed.  I will make some free seed available in early spring.  At this point I have way more than I will need.  It seems to reseed here anyway. At least enough for my use. A tomato star.  Most of the tomato plants have a weird mold on the leaves.  But fruiting continues. I wish I had a greenhouse.  But I might be able to do a hoop house.  That is […]

Little things

September 13, 2022 by jude

I had to take this from far away through the screen on the porch so not clear but just wanted to share. This is Chip, I think, they do all look alike. But this one is friendly. Looks aren’t everything.

sort of a vacation

August 16, 2022 by jude

Yes, a little stitching.  Continuing to consider SUNflower and trying to put together a little something… But really, the garden, picking food is the highlight of my day. I smile. The 3.  Mixed.  Chard. Mustard greens. Malabar.  And that is a little red onion,  somehow they are not doing that well,  but they tasted great. I pick a huge bouquet, a little of each. wash and chop, olive oil, garlic and onion minced, quick sauté,  salt and pepper, a smidge […]

getting through

August 7, 2022 by jude

Sunflowers are on my mind. Still, but S is a wee bit down the road.  It’s a symbol, I added it to the glossary but I will gather my thoughts later. Just  Sunflower then. Right now it is too hot and I’m having breakfast. That’s right, cookies, I’m going through a phase. Internet is spotty.  There was a bit of rain yesterday but it only made it more humid. The ground is still dry.  Ants are coming in looking for […]

just a little garden cloth

August 2, 2022 by jude

The purple basil didn’t do well,  munched and molded.  But it did leave a bit of color on silk.  I think August will be a bit wordless.  In the garden.  Learning. I am very confused about so many things.

summer 2022

July 30, 2022 by jude

For a long time now, inspired by Dana… …the cloth I call Grow, remains on the table, as a Table Cloth.  It made a a great backdrop for seed sorting yesterday.  While we enjoyed  a few drops of rain for about 2 minutes.  Here in lower New York State, where water is everywhere, declared a drought area with reduced ground water for at least the near future, expected to continue now for however long.  Birds , bees, squirrels, chipmunks and […]

Control

July 29, 2022 by jude

Be in it. The haven I created here is not just for chipmunks. All of it,  just is here within view.  More life.  As it is and will be. Earth Weeps.  Under the needle.  Weaving on my mind.  Because weaving is a special kind of holding and a special kind of reminder.

and so it goes

July 28, 2022 by jude

Out of control. It’s that time of year. The cucumbers have escaped the fence and the Malabar spinach is everywhere.  There are definitely more than enough tomatoes for the chipmunks and us.  The paths are becoming hard to navigate. I will make some changes next season. There IS a garden. And then, I remind myself how little control I seem to have over how to get to things these days, but still I am growing.  My capabilities have seriously diminished […]
