winging it

October 19, 2022 by jude

Yes, B was,  is,  for Bird… and now another wing.  But wings,  wings have always been important and so when I get to W,  wings will surely be part of it. The thread here from Deb Lacativa, and while I am on the subject of thread… I have begun using some thread I dyed a while back, using avocado and walnut and I even jave some indigo.  Light soft shades dyed on a beautiful stitching thread  I source through Nancy […]

Because

October 16, 2022 by jude

Patchwork, in Perspective.  I feel a sense of simple joy coming on.  I think it is because I am just looking at everything from a new angle. Just in from the garden. Because it is a very warm and beautiful October.

B coming

October 15, 2022 by jude

From further down the path. We did make a path to the stone wall behind the house and the along the wall  which turns into the stream and then through the forest at its thickest point. We basically cleared brush and then used the clearing to walk everyday to keep it clear.  Today evidence of  transition is more apparent.  Soon there will be the longer view I look forward to. Early this morning, I thought, if I were to make […]

B The A corner is quilted.  A had 3 blocks,  the A,  the Apple and  the Apple tree.  So the quilting went around the corner.   Time is moving faster than my needle.   It’s almost mid October.   I am not used to deadlines.  Well that’s not true, I did work as a fabric designer for 30 years.   Maybe that’s why I left them behind. B was for Bird.   An applique just cut out from some old print.  A beast I guess, […]

Still A

October 3, 2022 by jude

Today A is for A Change in Direction.  I have leaned, now,  into quilting the border as I go.  Since I am still near A I started there.  Changing direction at the corner.   Turning a corner in so many ways in my mind.  And now there is a place for something there, in the corner place.   Maybe. I am leaning I think toward the moon, or maybe a tiny Moon Cabin,  been loving Grace’s cabin making  these days.  Or maybe […]

Still A

October 1, 2022 by jude

A.  Again. And again.  I am thinking about false beginnings.   I am also caught in considering  Intention vs Promise. But that’s kinda heavy for this dreary sunless day so I will save that for another time. These are from the A section of Alphabet Soup.  I am remembering the machine piecing free style.  How new that was for me.  I was thrilled at the speed at which this came together.   And the new form it seemed to present.  But still, […]

Press on

September 28, 2022 by jude

2008 ? ! I am really sorting through the past,  trying desperately to open some space in my brain for newness.  I came across this article from way back, Artful Blogging Magazine which has since been retired.   Back when blogging was just blossoming.  New. I was there.  So were a lot of you.  I kept the pages because they seem antique.  Maybe I will use them to paint on.  Or something.  Over the years I have disengaged with being published […]

Around

September 15, 2022 by jude

The round woodpile is bigger this year,  we got better at it, one big pile. And under the deck is also full. I almost wanted to build a fire this morning… the chill is delicious though. I chose two robes instead. I want to make a wool robe.  I think I will. Actually a robe for each season sounds good. But then,  by combining two robes, well that works too, and there is less. And more when needed. If I […]

Cooler

September 14, 2022 by jude

I can say we got enough rain. It is cool and damp  and these are new to me.  New is good at the moment, I have slipped into a strange kind of boredom. It took months but the porch ceiling is finally painted,  we don’t care about fancy or neat, could have left the plywood bare,  but this makes it lighter, softly.  It was hard work at our age, gosh I can feel it.  Tape comes off later today. I […]
