another cold morning

January 15, 2023 by jude

Big wind howling. But there is a fire. It grew, Grow.  The Nest of Days came off the wall so I could look at this one as a whole, decide how to continue.  The kitchen is behind that wall so I stop on the way and look at it a lot.  Looking for now.  It will not be there for long… Maybe I will take it outside too.  I will try to put a post together about seams this week […]

Managing the Thin-ness

November 27, 2022 by jude

The change of season has revealed the small basket feeder I hung on the fence in early spring.  I forgot it was there.  The summer growth had woven another basket around it.  It became a nest.  It’s the time of year for seeing through. I remind myself that design is a kind of mending. This cloth, The Mother-Ring, is so thin, unstable, worn, stained, reworked, holding but useful maybe only for looking.   I made some changes.  Folded the edge in […]

z is for…

November 25, 2022 by jude

Z.  Zebra, ZigZag  , Zzzzz. Alphabet Soup will be ready to travel to its new home by year’s end.  In whatever form it has taken by then. I am not exactly Zooming along, no, I am just going.  Rather randomly as I bump into this and that.  Honestly, it would hold together as it is now.  And probably I could work on it anytime, even after I give it away. I am thinking of creating the ZigZag in the Double […]

My softened Reality

October 13, 2022 by jude

Truthfully, I have no agenda here… Not really possible because I can’t really keep track.   I somehow had this video, which I probably meant to post, but here it is,   from here, if you forgot too. Just, just going as needed. I suppose I don’t need to mend. But it make me feel better about a lot of things. outside inside

a Soap Opera Really

October 2, 2022 by jude

The mend of the PJs continues.  From here.  A little wobbly  probably  because the patch is a bit of a loose weave but I wanted the flexibility in the elbow.  But also I just didn’t (didn’t need to worry) care that much.  It is aligned enough to function and well… it will be an interesting new form for the plaid. Today, all my free and free enough classes may be unavailable due to a Typepad (the internet host) Server error.  […]

Here we go

September 30, 2022 by jude

Into October The dogwood really suffered during the heat and drought.  I thought it was the end. But there are a few berries despite fewer leaves and color so I guess she will be ok. I grew Ginger and Turmeric in pots. I am bringing them in today.  I didn’t realize you can eat the shoots and leaves on the ginger,  they have been a great addition to everything.  Both were started from organic grocery pieces. The indigo vat was […]

Good Enough

July 18, 2022 by jude

Sometimes a big ol’ patch is just the thing. (Continued from here,  in case you weren’t here yesterday…) I think Dee sent me this cloth, but my memory cannot be depended on these days. Patching is applique really.  I left the top edge ragged,  that makes this cloth a cobblecloth.  As if it wasn’t already? I tend to use  single thread for quilting these days.  I was more likely to use 2 way back when.  Interesting to see the play […]

To Love cloth

July 17, 2022 by jude

To Mend, just that. On this summer’s day. This, the wedding quilt from here.  Washed and now being strengthened  for the next leg of the journey.   Thought I might just put it here, to share the feeling that care brings. I put an x on the patch mark the spot and hold it. It goes all the way through to the other side.  A kind of quilting then.  Split backstitch. Up next: I love how cloth wears, reminding us to […]

SUN day

May 29, 2022 by jude

The rain finally subsided. It’s been days. I spent some time finishing up some mending that I probably started a year ago.  I have no pants left to wear, holes are not good,  it is a mosquito party right now. As you can see, light.  I am going to cover/ wrap really,  these chairs,  with some old clothwork.  The man made this table base years ago, it has wheels on the legs.  The glass came from some old table in […]
