Wasn’t it just Yesterday? Soul-o is a sunbather. There is more noticing here than anything else. This figure is a leftover, cut from the back of another stray self cloth to manage thickness. A shadow self. A scrap of self. What’ left of self. Just so funny how the foot happened. I tried a bit of stitching on very gauzy cloth, I think the struggle is evident but the spin is still there. I kind of like that I can […]
I like this double form. The double wishing star. I am thinking it might work for many things, a compound nested symbol. Something framed by itself. It gives the form a kind of depth. Perspective. Personal symbols are a picture language and life is complicated.
Yesterday’s Green. Everything. How can it not be about green in these days? I think I will take the summer off from writing here. Just go with pictures and talking. There is enough writing going on elsewhere. I did a bit of green storming today, you know, thoughts that arise with the word green. They weren’t surprising. greenstorming greening
Soul-o. I think we have made the transition. He is now the cat he was back on the Island. Cautious but outside. The difference is that we don’t let him out after dark. And where as he used to run away outside when he was scared, now he runs inside. He has adjusted to the schedule and seems happy with his return to freedom. And his new sense of home. This morning there were 7, all together but worlds apart. […]
Here we are. Almost the middle of April. Big moon coming. And I have a new design wall out on the porch. I painted it white last summer. The porch is my studio now for as long as it is warm enough. I am thinking I will simply work on the Just Home series through April. No other agenda. I am organizing my cloth thoughts for May when I will be able to talk and film outside. And begin again. […]
Just Good Morning. Because I plan to post here daily. Just to be here. There are now two. In the Just Home series. Just Because I would like to make nine. This morning he seems to have two different colored eyes. Just the way the light plays. I like the idea of having “different” kinds of eyes. On the same face. Reminds me of Expanded Vision.
Every morning, mostly, I eat yoghurt. You know… how the whey separates out over time and so I pour that off into a little jar and keep it in the fridge. Soak a little square of cloth, 5″, lightweight muslin, for 24 hours, then, the next day hang it out to dry. I have a stack of these curing. This is a mordant process. For dyeing cellulose fibers. I learned it in Girl Scouts. 55 years ago? But I never […]
There’s just no end for my love of light through a cat’s ear. Soul-o has become a ham. The dye po(e)t was out on the porch all winter and became a bit of a compost pail. It froze and thawed over and over. much of the liquid evaporated. I will add some back and boil it up today. I hope to build an outside fire pit soon.
