Edges

Sitting here, in the shared chair with Soul-o, looking at the foot rest/ottoman.  Noticing the edge  of a woven textile I picked up in Turkey so long ago, my first visit there.  I love how haphazard the binding is. How it looks like it is falling apart but it is holding together just fine.  Makes me want to try something like that with what's resting in the thread nest.

Yes, just sitting here, thinking and then noticing edges, that's how storming begins.

I happened upon this  while going through old photos.  Way back.  Liking it.

As I recover from the recent health scare,  I will return to adding private pages ( NOT Forever Zone) to the glossary (the words underlined in red dots) . This is an index of my personal language system that I use in talking about my work.  ( Do you have one?)  I will use it to gather together all my videos and teaching materials and journal entries, drawing etc. by subject...much of which has been lost in the shuffle or never published at all. Or simply forgotten.  It'll be slow but fun, at least for me now that I realize I have over 1500 You Tube videos, geez.

The pages will be comment enabled, for those of you Zoners, feel free to add your thoughts.

silk can be difficult.

This is the cloth I used for the feathery cut outs on Nine for Peace... my last post. It is silk, the slippery kind, and a very loose weave and I worked very hard to try to control the edges.  It shreds almost by just looking at it.  But I worked hard to integrate it into the background. Stitching can be like weaving.  In the process I started to feel ok about it's fragility,  it works, peace doesn't come easy. It's ok, perfect really.  It is holding for now. Peace is fragile. OK.

So here we are, nearing the edge of May.

  1. Jude~ Sometimes we just need an edge to hold on to, to encircle us in some sort of caring or strength.
May all of our edges be soft, but firm and appropriately inclusive or seen as a boundary.
    xo

  2. How is it the end of May? And yet, it felt like a long month. Time is weird. Glad you’re ok and having time to muse on things… frayed edges and loose binding, still holding on. I feel like that a lot these days! Peace sure is fragile. Sending you a purple heart 💜

Wow, a tortured month for me but then poof, where did it go? Chilly here today too. The weather is so up and down. But feeling stronger…💚

Just been on a journey of red dots and yellow full moons. How I enjoyed.
I wondered…What If I use all your glossary words from this post…would they make a found poem…they sort of do!…
    Soul-O looking.
    Edge there, LOVE binding.
Just thread nest storming through way.
Forever zone glossary red work, slow.

I love the concept of edges. Boundaries or beginning. Live edges. Living edges. Where fringe forms. The view from the edge is boundless.

    Thank you.

loved hearing the story behind those feathers. disappearing edges, becoming one. there’s a richness in fabrics from long ago ‘n far away places. such comfort in what “looks like it’s falling falling apart, but is holding together just fine”… x

May…my birthday month. It’s my favourite month. It seems to fly now. It’s a great beginning too. I meant to catch up with the equinox to Solstice stitchers. BUT life got in the way. It’s just how it is.

  7. There are edges everywhere and they are liminal. 🙂 I like thinking of frayed edges, how they blend things. There is also a need for fixed ones; edges that hold, gather, contain. So great to hear of your gathering thoughts and ideas…

Yes! On the Edge, as you say. When I edge, I do hexes…it rather looks like the Turkish piece…but I like it. It holds.

Appreciating the shift in tone and pace today … fun to see the silk source fabric … reflections arising at the edge of May. Healing blessings!
