Ding!
Down. Done? Not Done really. I want to make a table.
The last slice, I heard voices, speaking in Spanish. Which I understand mostly after 3 years of study in high school and living in NYC. This area is very much mixed and very much Hispanic. There was excitement. I came to the window, they wanted to show me. It was a good decision to cut.
They will come back to cut the wood. I will not keep it. I will Donate it. I have enough left to last through the few months I might be here. And if not maybe a cord from that great wood guy I found last year.

All I could think of was Earth.
Brown Legs maybe, but Brown Everything.
D can be for Dyeing then, today. I want to Dye more brown. Or maybe overdye some cloth and make it brown-ish.
I feel a tree series brewing.
But I need to go to the post office which closes early today. If you bought anything from the shop in the last days, well I couldn't get out yesterday with the chipper in the driveway.
And let me say, the Forever Zone Newsletter is getting kicked back a lot as spam. So if you feel you are not getting it... check spam, but I think going forward I will make some changes. I will put a copy here on the main page under the Zone Gateway.
Didn't get to comments yesterday, but thank you for stopping by.

Thank- you for sharing Jude,
I see a butterfly, lines leading to a wavy path, and I see a small tree creature down the bottom, as if he has been waiting to be found all these years and brought into the light.
A tree series sounds wonderful, so magical but also grounding at the same time, which is where the brown comes in.
I think we all need our own tree creature, everyone of them individual, just like us.
Of course we will need your guidance to get us started, then maybe share our forrest friends from all around the world?
I remember a piece you did where there were three creatures, connected to each other with a faint line of stitching, and a red dot.
This image reminds me of that. 💚
perhaps it is nature that connects us.
The tree note looks like a beautiful butterfly. Changing again. Becoming something new but not. Different maybe. But more itself?
I will remember this tree for a long time.
Wonderful gift from a dying tree, and all the things I can imagine in the center space.
My table has a base made from manzanita roots. The unseen can be magical.
Damp — my word for the day — unexpected summer shower. Also magical as it never rains here in August.
A whole world inside.
Damp might work here this morning too.
Looking at the hollow end of the tree trunk, I see a 🐉 a slice will make an awesome table!!!
Earth tones are so full of comfort, I think…
And, hurray! A wood stove in the new place, that’s going to be great!
Love the brown cat …
I’ve been saving onion skins and looking for acorns.
Has anyone tried dyeing with hickory nuts/hulls…no walnuts here ( rats!) but I know someone with a hickory tree
🤎
Yes, hickory is everywhere here, tan mostly but a very good source of tanin.
“Can’t see the wood for the trees.”
and now you can … and it’s full of beautiful possibilities. A table will be very cool.
I have an old, probably smelly, tub of last year’s walnut and onion dye liquid. Also a new outdoor electric ring to try. I am so clumsy and burnt my hands over my brick fire chimney when I couldn’t see through the smoke. Brown cat is wonderful!
The opening is quite lovely.
Getting a bit clumsy myself… I’ll have woodstove when I move, looking forward to that.
Wow, that tree really did need to come down. We had a huge beech tree right up next to the house that was the same—-hollow right down to the ground. Scary thought with good sized winds coming along so frequently. You should have the tree cutters cut off a slice of the bottom there, you could put wood preservative on it and it would make a really interesting yard or house ornament. It’s a beautiful shape.
Yeah, a big hurricane season is predicted and the recent storms have been really scary.
It is really beautifully decayed.
Good that you took that down, whoa! It will make a great table. Hope you are having the same warm, not too warm, sunny day today!
Yeah, it was a comfort that I did not make a mistake. Beautiful day!
😵. Tree guy wasn’t kidding. What a fascinating shape it’s made though. You have inspired me to make a new walnut pot. I’m up and dressed to see what the trees have dropped for me. And check on the one monarch caterpillar I found yesterday.

When I hand saw small branches, I love looking at what’s inside.
I can’t believe how beautiful the stump is, Jude. I am stunned. This tree gift hiding in plain sight. I have always revered trees, everything about them. This stump seems magical…with a message here. Seeing this uncovered part of your tree feels like being a witness to its power, its history, its story in a new way
Yes, I am just vibrating, standing next to it…
Love your Earth Self and Brown, along with some Green thrown in 🙂
What a great stump/table possibility.
I’m Down with all you’re Doing!
I dream a lot! 😂
I spy a dancing bear in the felled tree.
I love what u see.
That tree stump is delightful! 🙂 I need two days for d. I was so tired last night when I got home that I didn’t get to “dye” and that is an important one.
Such natural beauty, your stitch work and that tree stump, destined for tableship!!
I cannot get over that stump!
yeah, I can see myself taking liberties with the natural order of the alphabet.
Love the table idea and the shape of nature’s journey.
it’s all so great, I should have done a video of the ants!
When we lived in CA, we had to take down 3 eucalyptus trees. Two of the stumps were used as lit6tle sitting stools and the larger stump became a table, just the right size for a teapot, mug and a plate of biscotti, eaten outside.
Yes browns can come from many sources s and one of my favorite, mellow browns came from soaking wood chips in vodka! and then bundling them into soy milk mordanted cloth. I got the most marvelous, warm brown color with black striations due to the steel wool strands.
sounds like a delicious brew!
From one angle the trunk shape looks like a butterfly. Trees are so full of life, even when they are no longer growing.
Yes, it’s a butterfly somehow. still becoming. and those stumps stay forever and are great woodpecker snack bars

Have a big birch tree where i always wonder what it looks like inside…..
A table sounds awesome!
My son could do it.
Almost a lucky 4 leaf pattern! Tree series, oh yes! 😊🌲🍀🌳
I did a few, but I feel like a tree today.
Love that stump shape, and I’ve been thinking about brown too! Your walnut dyeing ❤️
Brown is easy. Lots if stuff makes brown. But walnut is amazing…
