Ding!

Just curious

And I imagine being the sunrise...

We are expecting a big snow!  At least enough to cause a bit of inconvenience.  I 'll be out gathering kindling and then stacking a few days worth of wood inside by the fireplace. Starting a stew. There is always enough soup in the freezer.  Tree guy plows the road in, I don't need to call.  Sometimes he doesn't make it till the next day but it's ok.  I'll sit here imagining everyone rushing to the market while they probably have enough to eat anyway.

Noticing the thyme I divided and transplanted here and there is doing well.  Evergreen here and spreading.

hopefully there will be 3 acres of this soon, imagine that.

It all started when I found some wild thyme growing among the mosses.  It releases a perfume when you walk by it or even on it.  And oh, after it rains.  It persists even with no water.  Deer avoid it.  Bees love the flowers,  and I said to myself, I need more thyme.

You’ve given me an idea. Well, actually, another idea. I’ll transplant a chunk of my potted thyme in the ground in an area where we need groundcover. Hopefully it will keep the neighbor’s cats from doing their business there as I understand they don’t like it. I want to keep some in the pot because I trail my fingers through it, the potted rosemary and oregano everything I walk by them. Heaven.
Hope your snowfall is not too bad. We’re just wet here in western Oregon. The mosses and lichens have had a few dry years, so they are all perking up. Even a light snowfall would be welcome, but not necessary.

As far as I know, nothing likes it but bees abd people! Funny how I’ve ended up with mostly parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. I keep the Rosemary in the coldframe.

Was once asked to write an essay on Time. I wrote mine on Thyme. Fortunately prof had a sense of humor and gave me a decent grade. I love having thyme on my hands .

Wonderful photo and love the added moon…..also love thyme…..a great herb. Loving this community of kindred Spirits. The air here in MA smells like just before snow, expecting several inches tonight.

love hearing about thyme! especially the idea of intermixing it with flowers. currently puzzle-piecing a snow ‘n deer-resistant garden for where we’re moving.

thyme is one of the greatest gifts in the garden. Yes, yes, yes…plant it near a walkway for scented steps….a true love at my home and anywhere I find it growing wild.

Howling winds woke me up at 4 AM, and snow has finally come to the high desert! I love the idea of BEING the sunrise. And someday I would love to wander through 3 acres of thyme. Stay warm, enjoy the stew, and thanks so much for sharing with us, Jude!

  7. The chance of snow has been in and out of the forecast for here…Right now there are a couple days forecast that we won’t get above freezing. Most likely we will get the cold and no snow. I am going to pick the rest of the parsley and mint today, some thyme too. Stew sounds good.

stayed below freezing yesterday and into today, if it does snow it will stay. It looks like it will. Just picked my parsley and mint too. Stew is brewing and I can’t wait.

  8. thyme is one of my favorites, especially in stew

I hope you get magical snowfall minus any power outages … and then strong sun to melt it all in good time

It’s just a wonderfully useful plant.
We’ll see, it is a nor’Easter but the wind forecast isn’t too severe. We installed a generator so it will be ok. Just hate the noise. I think some warm rain will help the melt. But there will be that slushy mess.

Thyme… you can never grow too much thyme. I grow several varieties here in Portugal. And it’s tea keeps all those winter bugs at bay. No snow here though, I miss its magical beauty. Keep warm.

Stay warm and be happy – you are always so far ahead of the snow disasters with loading in the wood and food… and time for your beautiful art! Well, Happy winter days and enjoy the quiet!

Making pot roast. We’re having a few hours of heat wave….40 degrees in this little town not far from Missoula. I am amazed that the thyme I’ve planted can still be harvested under the snow. That scent is so much earth. And that green unlike any other. Felting landscapes….painting with wool. Something so satisfying about needle crafting …just don’t poke your fingers. Ouch!

Ar ar. We all need more time, don’t we? Snow is predicted here too but the predictions have a way of not panning out anymore. We’ll probably get two inches mixed with rain.

Ah, yes, more thyme! 😂 Happy sunning/beaming … casting light … that thing you do so well. Looking forward to seeing how this piece grows.
