Snow Day

snow fields

Ding!

The spring in me.

It's still snowing.Β  Not going anywhere. I love it.Β  I watched well into the deep night.Β  I slept late.Β  It's quiet. Maybe everyone is loving it.

It seems so long sinceΒ  there was snow. Enough to stay a bit.Β  And yesterday evening, when it began, I did, I noticed the day was longer.

Beautiful snow and pictures. I so miss the cardinals I grew up with back east. They don’t live on the coast of northern California. Stay warm and cozy.

No snow here; maybe only once every twenty years or so, but we had rain and a big pot of lentil soup on the stove. This morning the sun is shining.
Little bird feet must be like tiny snowshoes; they stay on top of the snow and never sink in.

  3. It’s so beautiful today. But I feel a bit bad that I was not able to get going on bird feeding as the seed bags are a bit big for me to wrangle right now. But, you’ve inspired me to get a neighbor to bring the bag in. And I, too, noticed the longer day yesterday πŸ™‚

I know this feeling so well and you’ve really captured it in words and pics. The being prepared, having what you need, and settling in; muffled sounds and reflected light. There was a chance for us this coming week but it looks like it will all be rain this time. Endless days of it get old but a few are lovely. Enjoy.

some of your birds look to be juncos … my mom always called them snow birds because you could count on seeing them after it snowed

Snow here as well in New Mexico, smattering here in the central part of the state where I live but lots in the higher elevations. Went early to the grocery to make sure we have enough eggs and milk and almost dropped he bag when I came out of the store because overhead, two hot air balloons! What! Are they nuts! It is beyond freezing…

Lots of food cooked here for this week; I like to be ready when we need to hunker down:: salmon chowder, (made so delicious by fresh thyme); also have made a huge pot of vegetarian chili and a Shepherds Pie made with leftover leg of lamb from Christmas. Later in the week, a lasagna will be made and that’s it for cooking for two weeks. Lots of books, a warm throw on the couch, candles and food in the frig- what a gift…

AND while we are all talking about snow, I am also thinking of spring because yesterday, I set up our hydroponic Aero garden, a Christmas gift from our landlord. He had noticed that since I had been so busy with taking care of my husband due to his health issues, my wee outdoor garden had languished over the summer. We were so surprised when he and his wife came and give us this gift. It is not how I like to garden since I need to get my hands in the dirt but the thoughtfulness and kindness of his noticing means the world to us.of this gift, In bout a little over a month, I will begin to have lettuce in winter! Imagine that They also gave us a gift of six heirloom lettuce to plant: Deer Tongue Green Anish lettuce, Black seeded Simpson, Marvel of Four Seasons, Red Sails and two types of romaine, Rogue de Hivres and Parris Island…

yes, the cardinals are very shy here, I put the feeder in front of the window yesterday because I know, with the snow, they would come.

the crisp silhouettes in snow with the tiny bits of color poking thru… seem to distill the essence of the landscape. like a vintage japanese folding screen. love.

O, so glad Snow fell where you are! And, Snow-in-the-Woods even nicer! Once I was in Kentucky Woods when it was snowing–big, thick clumps of flakes, the only sound flakes landing on my knitted cap. A lovely memory still …

No snow here yet but I do long for that white quiet that happens, at least for a bit before my neighbors wake up and start up all their machines.

Defintely an escape. Until shoveling. I tend to prepare a lot of food and try to stay put until it melts. It will be quite warm again in a day or so. And rain is expected.

I throw them out the window so I dont have to mess up the snow πŸ˜‚
I filled the feeders at dusk. Right before the snow began.

We got snow yesterday here in the foothills of California. Today it’s 31 degrees, and super cold, but not snowing. We love to watch it snow!
