Floating and Holding

Remember?  If not,  Here.

The Skeave thing.

This one has been floating around here for a while.

one thing touching another can anchor a thought

grounded

side by side

framing is holding

skoven

if I had turned it sideways to work, it might have become a beast.

Now  I am asking myself, what if I just work around the drawn warp or even draw warp on an existing composition... let the "unskoven"  float there for a while until I figure out how to skeave it in. Right now I am tempted to skeave a bit more into the sun, give it more color. Maybe a face?  But not this time...

Beautiful little piece!! Never thought about skeaving before but I love it! I’m weaving a lot these days, different cloths on different looms. Was just thinking about how the warp is our inner life, the beliefs that we hold . . . and the weft is action, telling a story . . .

ooooooooooooOH!!! how a small composition can hold sooooo many possibilities… the skoven house feels quite painterly. pierre bonnard. thinking about a slightly larger skitch skatch with several spaces for skeaving, using different thicknesses of yarn. fringe. paper. feathers! been playing with creating pockets/patches from fringeless weaving ‘n intuitive latchhooking. longing to wrap myself up in all of this. picturing u in your bird robe… x

Love the birds flying by. Perfect image for the wetness of the season. All the wonderful textures in this piece. Things that are there but we don’t see…ever incorporate fish swimming?

I started weaving again, even purchased a small and a large frame loom, thinking about how to turn it into something useful. I like useful art. Maybe some bags, with my moons on them, woven or appliqued. Or stitched. All three, really.

My son said he might build a loom on the porch for me… but winter is coming, so I will find other ways… I still want to make a carpet.

  5. The first image took me to the ocean. Then when I got to the 3-top of images, the one on the right, where your words start with ‘frami…” as I scrolled over to read the whole thing, my first thought was that it was saying “framily”. Of course it didn’t say that, but it kinda fit and is a fun word to say.

  6. Scale…that’s something to think about. And “floating and holding” reminds me of a family adventure. Out in a rowboat that had a hole in it, with me putting my hand over the hole (age 7 or 8) trying to make sure no water got in. It had to have been a really small hole because I remember my dad kept reassuring me that it was fine…

ha, yes, you have me thinking about how there is more than one kind of floating. And scale is so much isn’t it? So related to perspective. How we might blow things way out of proportion…

House of the Woven Sun … such impact from simple elements joined by human creativity and imagination and consciousness … how can that be? And yet it is. The flowers, clouds, waves, water, tree, sun, shelter … joined in spirit and by thread into a single expression. One of the dearest little pieces I’ve ever seen. Thank you for sharing.

sunshine makes me happy and there was none, so maybe I was just needing to hold it inside. But this all gave me some new ideas.
