Reflection

I have wandered off.  So many times, due my tendency to stray...

Maybe that is the first requirement of trailblazing.

Reflection. A something that is a consequence of or  might be arising  from something else.

A is for arising, it's been there in the glossary.  But not Reflection.  I'll get to that soon, because a lot of imagery comes to mind.

Second cloth taken from the basket.

Did I name it?  I might not name it.  Naming things will be reconsidered.

What if we could name things without words?

It's still dark.  It's raining.  A lot.

  1. I like naming… but some of the old Celtic myths and folk tales say that if the true name of someone is known, then they are susceptible to curses, etc., so to keep the true names a secret. Soul-o through the fire portal is fun.

Jude~ I seem to swing between feeling very strongly on the power of naming/a name and feeling like there is no real need…as in a label. So, today naming VS labeling? Mmm…?
When I was teaching, I once wrote a piece on the power of naming to promote shared understanding, etc.
Today I am floating in what do I call this foot pain? Can’t really name it to communicate how it feels. Even pain is somehow wrong.
Oh well. Maybe quiet is good too.

how this 2nd piece relates to the 1st piece, almost like letters of the same word… seeing the vibrations rippling outward, like communication from a satellite, forming a basket of comfort. reflecting on the power of our words, whether thought, spoken or written, to create our personal world…

    I feel with that cloth.
I “name”(in silence) many things just by how i feel…no wors just feel.
I wonder if that makes any sense.
Anyway, this cloth realy speaks to me 😉

‘Naming things’ is something I have considered for quite some time. Why is it that I have never been able to attach a name to my harp or loom, let alone a piece of cloth? Maybe I’m afraid of choosing the wrong name, something that does not show who or what they really are.

Yes, I think naming is connected to a kind of fear generated by the exclusivity of the “art” thing. But I think it can simy be a way of sharing story.

This one is very calming, even with all the movement…like a full moon on one of those weird cloud nights – with the haze around it.

Naming my pieces in isolation is agony – almost paralyzing. Interferes with completion. Limits the meaning somehow. The thought of letting go of the need to provide a singular “name” is tantalizing. Shared observations in community could be more helpful as opposed to pieces never birthed for lack of the “perfect name”.

As a nurse, we often try to avoid naming diagnoses because then “Maggie” becomes “the diabetic in 102.” Naming must be considered with care…..

Good morning! Raining and WINDY here…
So many images in that reflection. I especially like the mop capped fox I see in the left 😍…and it goes without saying…Soul-O 🤩
It is so good to see your cloths from the basket 💙💙💙

pouring here. just straight rain, not even a breeze.
reflection seems to deepen the more you look.
these cloths, like old friends… so good to connect.

  10. Now you’ve set me pondering. What does it mean to “name” something? Many ways to think about that…. And, of course, that leads to “what is language” and what does it “do.” Thank you for the puzzlement!

I remember that piece! Always suggested the Doppler Effect, a pebble thrown into a pond, the water rippling outward…
    Naming is very powerful.
Love your stove, Jude. So cozy!
