layers of time

Ding!

Good Morning.

a study in personal time holding

Yesterday I commented about possibly combining the hands and the moon tree to make a new image.  This morning , woke up , asking myself what if I just try? Is What-iffing a kind of dreaming?  Deb G is thinking a lot about dreaming.  She moved to a new place because of the Typepad issues.  I changed the link on the ragmates page.

I am playing with the hand idea. In my mind and here.

What if I call this

Ch-Ch-Ch Changes?

Because we know they are coming.

Waving...

I did imagine this layered image though, before I made it.

Jude, I thought of momigami when I read your note, “ I’m starting to think about paper as cloth. Thin paper is a big part of it…”. And besides, the hand-feel of paper given the momagami technique/process is wonderful.

I still love writing & receiving letters, unedited words straight from the heart that fly to the few friends that don’t have phones or computers in this 21st C world & remembering the decade when I didn’t have a camera to record the art. Always get surprised when I see that work again when visiting old friends…

  3. I really have mixed feelings about digital layering. I love playing with it, exploring the what if I combine this with this, but then always think it’s too easy. That this is part of the problem in general. That and we seem to lose track of what is real and what isn’t…It is tricky finding the right balance. I am not ready to give up trying though. 🙂

Yes, digital actually helped me understand the importance of layering in image building… curious how to balance yes, it’s a bit of a dance…

  4. I love this piece so much – the moon, arm branches, dots, and now with the hands. Remembering when moon drew a universe on his hand, and then I stitched it on cloth. And remembering when I was afraid of having a computer come into our house, having a cell phone, email, etc.and then worrying about my lack of technology skills, and wanting to sign up for one of your workshops, and how you said it would all be OK. And what a gift it all ended up being. How to hold onto the gifts and let go of the burdens?

The internet — a blessing and a curse. Those of us that grew up before the computer age could give it up easier than the young ones. I would like to keep my phone though.

thinking about the fresh possibilities that come with the packing ‘n unpacking process. maybe we should do it regularly, with a different layout each time! like a 3d puzzle opportunity. just to experience new perspectives… in the same way, it helps me to “fast” from the techy stuff every so often…

  7. Ooo…I see a little witch on a broomstick to the left of the moon in Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes….not so defined when I zoomed in.
Looking forward to seeing the progress on Moon-tree and hands.
    Glad your allergies are improving.
    Waving back 👋

I like the Moon Tree so much, I can’t imagine it combined with the hands. Maybe if the hands were drawn, rather than a photo?

I’m just playing with image, the little cloth I am working on will remain just the moon tree. I build new images as I go, to keep going.

Sometimes I miss unplugged!!!Maybe it’s because I have been been born in the between era.Every thing too much is bad as my grandma used to say.I do really enjoy your emails …

Jude~ Well, I say thank goodness for at least one working digital way to keep in contact. I would feel very lonely without my online peeps.
I’m picturing all sorts of things as I listen to you and look at the images (love this tree with the purple leaves). Super thin/sheer silk as the handprint layer…or thin and crinkled vellum type paper…or?
Enjoy the dreaming and playing. I have to find lots of work arounds, not for creating, but for living in 2025 without a smartphone. The powers that be think we all have one! ha. I look at it as another kind of creativity…problem solving 🙂 Be well.

It’s all a kind of design mending. I don’t miss the smartphone really, I got a landline. I need to get a new portable model phone with an answering machine. The phone keeps me too connected, if you know what I mean…
No internet haunts me, I know these things can collapse, just imagine.
and yes, thin. thin cloth, thin paper.

I am so rarely able to make it to read, let alone comment, on your beautiful and thoughtful posts. A year and a half ago, I had to move and let go of about half of my possessions; and now we are moving again, and this time, probably about 50%-75% or so must go. I’m down to figuring out which of my art supplies and tools are most precious and useful to me. At first, and for quite a long time, I felt sad and kind of frozen about what to choose and how to do it. Now, I’m getting clearer and this piece of yours is rather how I’m feeling — throwing up my hands in joy, and in resignation at what life is bringing me at age 84. Thank you, Jude, for still sharing with us your journey through your art.

I am glad we can still, at the moment, stay connected and share!
Hopefully, things will smooth out in the coming days!!
I’ve had to retype this 3 x…Kahlo keeps crawling around and rubbing and knocking my typing cattywampus HAHA
(glad your allergies are better today!)
