shift

Suddenly.

Suddenly  change in the air...

Cooler.   But that's not the  end of it.

wood stove and chimney are just fine,,,

I was just settling into going in the comfort of fire.  Cobbled  a little base for shift stitching... thinking about the the fire inside....

And I get an email ...

a simple twist of fate

It's true, I predicted this early on and they kept denying it and here we are.

So sorry this is happening…you are always so good at going with the flow, Life just doesn’t seem to be giving you a break lately. Wishing for the flow of grace your way.

I hope you can find a way to save some of it, anyway, to youtube. I watch several makers there, and the setup looks easy, although I’m not savvy enough to even suggest…But your energy has touched so many people…other youtubers mention you by name, so you aren’t going away.
Be strong, and find another way.

I cannot imagine this for you. And us. I have no idea how I found you, but so glad I did. I have read all the comments and listened to you speak of this… and for your vision, your legacy, to be ripped out from under you! My heart is heavy for you, but I am confident you will emerge morphed into a new vision and be lighter than ever. I hope you keep your facebook page!

    WTF!!! .
As a non-blogger, I cannot begin to know how this feels but as a reader, who comes here for so many reasons, this is a gut-wrenching. situation. See, I don’t think of this place as a blog, I think of this place as a neighborhood, that special place where we all come together, in so many ways. This is gut-wrenching. What I do know is that never, in all my years of reading many, many blogs, have I found one so open with what I call, experienced encyclopedic knowledge on so many levels. A place for conversation, for humor, for encouragement, for exchanging thoughts, rants, joys, sorrows…in other words, a place of inspiration that is so much more than sharing of cloth – a place for sharing life and life lessons in community.

Whatever you decide to do Jude, know that what you have given to all of us, holds within each of us, and we are all the better for it. Thank you.

  5. Jude there is a way to transfer everything but you need to open a ticket with type pad to ask that all your blog info and links be transportable to a file that you can them upload to a new site. . The algorithm suggested word press . I can ask around for a tech savvy friend to secure you help . Lmk if you need . Hope the walk helped. Dewey

So sorry Jude, and I’m angry on your behalf. I know nothing about blogging and it would stress me out too!
Much love and I hope you settle in to whatever is best for you. 💙✌🏼

I am not tech suave, I do hope you can save your work somehow. A month’s notice sucks, big time. I’m willing to contribute. You have taught me so much.

Jude–I tried to post and it vanished. My point was: surely there is a way to retrieve the information. My wish is that the angels of technology–there are so many clever ones around–will fly in to guide you to the retrieval. It seems that in this crazy 21st century no information really disappears. blessings from Kona

  9. OMG. jude!! I find it hard to believe that in this day of so much technology, that any information completely disappears. I see Margery, above had a suggestion. Wishing you the arrival of angels of technology–there are so many clever ones around–to guide you and to retrieve your precious content/history for all of us. Blessings from Kona

“time to rethink”… yes! there WILL be a path forward! all the creative energy u have patiently poured out in the past is still active ‘n on-going in our hearts ‘n minds. that can NEVER be “deactivated”! HA! i actually feel JOY about this new opportunity for all of us to “see with new eyes” ‘n to stitch together a fresh possibility… sending BIG love! X

I can imagine how devastating this seem to be for to you. But since it sounds as though it is going to happen your only choice is how you approach it. It could very well be an opportunity to go in a new direction, take the data that you can get back and use it in some other fashion—-write a book you could do that and illustrate it yourself. You could set up a school of sorts and give classes there locally—you have the perfect place to do that with the cabin.. You could get together with an art teacher in one of the schools and work with children stretching their creative muscles and teaching them new techniques. Or You could just say well I’ve done all this stuff and felt called to offer it to other makers and I’m just going to hang it up and do something altogether different. You could just do something for yourself. You’re allowed! You could look at the time you will suddenly have available as a gift and you have the skills and creativity to create so many different things so just stop and think about what Jude would just like to do now that the opportunity has fallen into her lap.

Is this the universe directing you to export all of your beautiful work from this site into an actual book, paper pages and all, nobody can erase that. Knowledge shared can never be erased. Your journey with cloth is so important and valuable to many, many people around the world. I would buy your book, even though it would cost the earth to send it to New Zealand!

  13. jess

Joining the chorus to say that you only need to speak up and say you need help and what help you need and I’ll do what I can. I hope you can preserve all of your content, it’s precious, really.

  14. Laurie

Oh man. Hope you figure out an easy way to import it all into another platform. The biggest problem I had was broken links to photos, but we all do things differently and you have SO MUCH MORE content! Here’s hoping you’ll get through it with your brain intact.

  15. Well that sucks. I’m glad you had the foresight to start transitioning to WP. That’s a pretty short notice though.
Maybe hire someone to transition any TP content for you. Avoid the frustration which is real!

  16. I was totally stunned by the fact that everything you’ve done could just disappear — poof! Yes, WTF! Then I called my computer-savvy son, who googled around while we were talking & found that you should be able to save things. He sent this link as one place to start (there are others, videos, etc.): https://firstsiteguide.com/move-movabletype-and-typepad-to-wordpress/ which shows one way to move stuff off TypePad to your own computer and then to WordPress. It sounds simple to get it to your own computer via Settings > Export. (Ha! for me, nothing about computers is simple!). WordPress apparently has a set-up to import from TypePad. – – – – And all this has set me to thinking about Perishability and Change…….. much to ponder…. Good Luck! I love what you’ve created. Sending hugs & encouragement <3

Our hearts beat as one with yours Jude.
whatever or wherever….. we have had a hell of a learning journey. and it’s not over yet.
    peace

  18. Sharon McDonnell

Shit. You should grieve and take a little bit of time. Feeling dispirited and pissed seems like a reasonable response.
Then, “no matter what you do, you should get a full export of your Typepad account. To do that go to
Import/Export and scroll down to the Export section. Click the Export button to generate the export file. Once the export is complete, you will see a download link….With a paid Typepad account, you can request an export of all uploaded files, including images, by opening a Help Ticket in your Typepad account.

The decision about where, if anywhere, to go next is something you may not know yet but you want the option for it if you find money and energy. As someone says on the help blog, “WordPress does have a built in Typepad importer, which I’ve never used but probably works fine. I suspect it will not deal with your images automatically. Not sure about how it’ll handle links, but you can always batch create redirects.

Even if you can’t get an export of all files from Typepad, the images issues probably could be solved with some careful searching of the export file for media, downloading all that media, uploading it to a new WordPress, and then doing find and replace to make the media links work.”

    https://ask.metafilter.com/382651/Migrating-from-Typepad-to-WordPress-or-something-similar

I am sure there will be more information coming out about how well this works.

I had something similar happen to my blog and to my photographic website. It sucks BIG. I took some time and decided what I wanted to keep doing — what fed me — and what I wanted to give up. I also called on friends to help me think about it and to help me implement the next steps. That is critical to keeping ones spirits up.
I have a guy I call on for this type of thing.
I also think that if you decided to raise $1000 to migrate your site to somewhere — even a slimmed down version– that people would donate.
You have done an amazing job of putting together the features of blog, online shopping, links to Youtube, and kept the historical content updated. Really, Whizkid level of skill. Starting over is daunting.
What I will do now is ask my folks what they might recommend about which places are actually worth going to, if you wanted to just press forward with a blog — even if all the whistles and bells are not assured. WordPress vs others.
I had to pay for hosting and blog on wordpress to get out of the problems and it was <$1000 for 2 years.
Anyway, this is more than you might want to hear right now. I am happy to help with links and fussy stuff.

  19. Tina

I think it’s overwhelming… BUT if you have all of the videos, tutorials, subscription information, etc etc maybe just maybe your digital presence might be simpler and better! Where folks know where to find you. I actually tried to subscribe to your substack and then realized that you no longer have a presence there. Almost like you are too many places at once. You shall prevail and succeed.

I am so sorry, Jude. I don’t comment much but I am a daily reader. This news saddens me deeply. I can’t imagine what it is doing to you. Enjoy your walk today. Enjoy your family, your grandson, your new home, and your new surroundings.

    • Janice

Poof, seems to sum it up Jude. All you envisioned has just gone Poof, into thin air. You must be feeling so let down. All that work and history to be lost. I feel for you.
Do whatever you have to do to make life easier for yourself, but still satisfy your creativity.
I enjoy reading your daily posts and photographs. I hope your walk was soothing.

IS THERE ANY PLACE THAT WILL NOT CAUSE YOU DISMAY?
ONE THAT WITH HELP COULD ACCEPT THE SWITCH … WITHOUT
    HARDSHIP ON YOU??
I DO NOT HAVE THE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF HOW THIS WORKS.
HAVE NO IDEA OF THE COSTS TO HAVE SUCH A PLACE.
DON’T BE DISCOURAGED… I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU MIGHT BE
RELUCTANT TO POST ANY SPECIFIC INFORMATION … YOU HAVE OUR EMAILS… DON’T HESITATE TO REACH OUT

  22. I’m sorry and sad.
Even though I haven’t logged in a long time, I’ve been sitting here in a sad funk. Hopefully K can help me figure out how to save the years and years of stories.
Will try to hold onto your word “opportunity” and hope this will push me to whatever might be next.

  23. Joan Hinchcliff

When I heard you speak sadness enveloped me so I can only imagine your sadness. I’m sure we are all hoping for a miracle.

  24. Bogi

This is sucks! So so sorry to hear this. All your content and your teachings and everything it is such a treasure. But there is HOPE maybe a miracle out there?

    – Bruce Cockburn

I am so sorry for this fucking soulless desecration Jude.

  26. Kathy C

I am reminded how easy it is for a bully to kick down a sandcastle someone has been building all day. And in your case for years. And in this country’s case, centuries.
We all share your sadness 😔

I am the director and sole instructor for an adult learning program. We tutor people to pass the equivalency test. On the entrance door to my classroom I have a quote, “Your comfort space is a cage.” Most of our students never follow through to pass the test, they just stop coming and lapse into the same habits that held them back from graduating high school.
