Walls

Yesterday, it was a like a wall of snow.   In my mind.

a soft wall

a wall, for now

Walls, I suppose, have different meanings in different situations.   We here might think of them as tools.  Design walls mostly,  for looking, for  working, for sharing, but then for even making things officially "art".

Wall Cloth is in the glossary.

I had a category for Walls on my old blog.

But then walls can protect us, hide us...  or even divide us.  We build them for so many other reasons.   And some of them we cannot see.

There are less inside walls here in this new place.  Or at least they are different.   Built for different reasons,  not for support like regular houses.  How we divide space interest me, when it is just an aesthetic choice.

I'm rambling, which is sign that the walls of my mind are melting.  In the moment.

This is the wall that will come down  when spring arrives.  I do believe it was put up when this place became an Airbnb,  just to have another room.  A money reason.  Without it the circle of this plan will be more apparent, and I will be able to watch the sun set.  I had planned to put the big round table in the space that will open up, but I had to leave it behind.  I miss it.

So it's almost February. I see my birthday on the 19th as a new beginning.   Since it is the date that everything changed last year.   I intend to be more present in the Forever Zone,  and  I will  put out a new description of the Zone soon.   Make things more clear in term of what I want to do there.  I intend to stay on Instagram and Facebook and I do not intend to move to any new platforms ( Bluesky etc.)  It's all the same shit really,  it is what it is, what you make it.   I'll just stay true to myself and keep going.  Until I can't.  (Link to Becky on Instagram)

Anything can be a kind of wall,  if you see it that way.

hey!

  1. I like walls…the nooks and crannies of rooms. I don’t think I’d miss them in a smaller/tiny house though. I don’t like shut doors though and have either taken down doors in my house or they are perpetually open. 🙂 Snow coming this way. It’s going to be wet snow during the day and it’s going to freeze at night…well another adventure.

Walls in a round house have too many weird angles that waste space. I prefer curtains to doors. I’ll work on that.
Snow happens almost every day here. The thrill is gone.😂

      • Yes, I can imagine that….about the walls. Maybe it would be fun to have a curved wall, like a fern unfurling. Too much snow for too long does become less magical.

I’m not a fan of walls inside my home. Lucky you, you can tear yours down. I think of Robert Frost’s poem Fences when I think of walls outside. Those I do not mind, especially in my neighborhood, narrow-minded people! I like your wall design and the large piece on it! It’s awesome.
Snow can be a wall too, especially for me. I like your photograph, my mind has been in a fog lately—sweet drawing at the end. I love them.

The good thing about your walls is the squirrels can not get inside of them. Trying to get the squirrels to stay outside of my walls is a battle. They have the whole woods and the large trees. Leave us be.

  4. Jude of the Moon Home…
I recall driving between two walls of snow in the Sierra’s in the early 1980’s. It was something to behold…

the first photo of the snow falling!! I think inanimate objects feel happiness at time when persons who appreciate them come into their life!

I have a wool blanket on one wall in my living room where I like to pin current work. Seeing my work on the wall is a joy.

  6. My granddaughters and their parents used to live in a yurt–a very average sized round room with a loft for sleeping. When they became a family of four they added a bedroom wing and a kitchen corner/curve and half bath. It’s name was The Lighthouse, and, alas, it burned a very bright light during the fires. Fortunately, they also had/have a little house in the city.
One of the things I’ve always wanted was at least one room that has walls covered in quilts. I Imagine it tentlike. Quite a few years ago our Quilt store, called The Quilted Forest, had people make six foot plus tall quilted trees for their booth at the local quilt show. Ever since, I’ve wanted to make some of those, too. Such trees seem a gentler way to divide indoor space than hard walls.

As usual, you’ve got me thinking.

Walls are shields we built to protect ourselves but sometimes we forget to tear them down when no longer needed.
We have sun today — sending you some to brighten that dark day.

Your deep descriptions of walls is fascinating! I am making an art wall that hangs as an insulating wall over my vans back doors, which when closed are up against my bed. I have taken the art work from you, Grace, and Hazel, and all my own little stitcheries I have done under all your guidance from this blog.. So colorful and meaningful to me, making my van homey and peaceful and full of love.

going thru’ your baskets piece by “peace”, sounds like a helpful way forward. “haven” truly glows from within. like your home. like u. i agree with jana… there’s another circular table in your future… x

…and ceilings. It is amazing how a 9 ft. ceiling, a circular path through my apartment (more movement in between handwork) and a more distant/edge of town view, touched and lightened my soul. And the real blessing is living closer to my son. Back to unpacking and organizing.

I like New England stone walls best of all!
And a favorite quote by Robert Frost, “Something there is that doesn’t love a wall …”

    Your Round House! 💖
Love Becky’s drawing of window lit up & the pink roof & blue sky! Thanks for sharing.
I hear you. Seems like I’d lose a lots of important information from those I follow on Meta. But I’m going to try BlueSky & Subtack as alternatives.

I tried substack but I don’t like it any better. They are all basically the same in the end I think. They are what you make of them.

Perhaps a new, even lovelier, circle table will show up nearby, asking to come home with you.

To live in a house where you will be able to watch the sunrise and the sunset, how marvelous is that?

    • jude

I had many round tables in a more square house, maybe it will be a square table in a round house…😂
Sunrise, sunset, a circle really …fits to this space.

I paid years back to follow your stitching and what I’ve come to realise, now I’ve refound you, is that I adored your voice in the tutorials.
Not only your calm voice and accent, but the wonderful tonal sound and the passion for fabric and mythical designs
Maybe you can find a local teenager in need of afew $ to be your snow wall shifter?
Do US teens do those kinds of jobs that I did in my teens, for spends?
The world’s different isn’t it now lol but the need for mythical fabric, stitched creatures is thankfully the same!
Please can I have access to the Forever Zone?
I had kept all your tutorials on a usb that became unusable 🙁
The techies tried to retrieve it’s contents but failed. A lesson learnt that usb’s can get damaged by cats hurtling over the laptop and upending things …

          Hi Lyn,
How did you lose me? ha!
The Forever Zone is basically a paid subscription for new teachings, although I have begun to add some other old classes as well. But I think probably the tutorials you are looking for ( looked back through my records) are still available through my Main Page here if you click on the box that says Free and open content. If you email me and tell me which classes you took I am sure I can still give you access.
Here is the link to that section.

You can read about the Forever Zone here, I am putting together a more detailed description of what is included.

And the top of that wall can be perceived as a path!
    Just going, right?

And oh those snowplows…I remember that from our Tahoe days; you spend hours digging out ( sometimes 3-4+ ft high, each storm ( back when the Sierras got SNOW)–+only to have the plow go by, and the didn’t drop the “gate”…aaaaand, you’re snowed in …again 😅

It’s almost our birthday month, Jude!!

    • Pat

      Good morning Jude,

I prefer Windows to walls, yet a window is still a barrier of sort.
Blocking wind, rain and bugs😁 yes, a window is much better suited for my liking.
Sending blessings that all your walls be seen through or not existing as a barrier to your soul and spirit.
We all should be so lucky to live in the woods, in a round house. May your home be a safe and sacred place, for you to let your spirit free to express its feelings in works of cloth and thread.
