We love our Jotel firelight wood stove. Heats the whole place, not cheap but seeing the fire through the glass doors is really special. Me and Daisy May, all white cat with yellow eyes are sitting here together this minute. I need to be warmer at 77 than I used to back when, plus you’re farther north. Heat, light, water! Make soup, sleep a lot, keep Soul-o close. Stitch something, unpack later. Maybe this is heaven!

all the times I’ve moved I have found it helps to put together a small area that I can go sit and relax when the chaos overwhelms me. have some tea, take some breathes. Good luck with your new adventure. The cabin looks awesome. I love the suggestion above to make it into your art space.

For my most recent move, at age 76, I moved fully into my studio before I am packed another single box. That was the best decision I’ve ever made during a move.

This place is good. Substack is too monetized, like where a lot of the world is going. Monetized and weaponized against us, the 98% of us who live outside the gates, so to speak.
The Round House is exquisite, and the cabin just even more so, but especially the Round House. I think Louise Erdrich (one of my current favorite authors) wrote a book called The Round House. Round houses have a deep spiritual significance, in many places around the world, Africa, Native America, Asia…I look forward to your elevated contributions to my day from the Round House.

It looks so peaceful. And you (and Soul-O) will make it “home” with time… I trust you will love it.
I can love most any place, in time, but I love this one already.
Your new house looks so contained and comfortable. And I think that moving as you have done now and so recently in the past, while a job and sometimes upsetting, and be useful. You can leave behind unhappy moments and emotions all while discarding physical things that you once thought were needed but which you will probably be better off without. It can relieve you of a lot of weight that you might not realize you have been carrying around.

The first stacked wood house I ever saw was up in the woods of Ontario… accessible only by train, then hiking in. It was on a lake and probably the prettiest place I have ever been, or had ever been up to that time in my life. (Alaska, a much later trip, holds top spot now.) The construction spoke to me. Hard work, but doable. Creative. Complete. It boggled my imagination. And you will be living in such a place… surrounded by woods. Lovely.
