C is for Cutting

the part that fell...

They came unannounced, as usual, tree guy is a spur of the moment kind of guy.   The bucket truck is broken, so they are gonna climb and cut.  Have you ever seen that on a giant tree? It is amazing. No cutting edge technology, just old world skill.

It will be very noisy here today.

Color

I posted this on Instagram yesterday.

There is more to say.

Not gonna have much time today.

Just to say that every time I post a peace symbol over there, tons of folks unfollow me. I don't care about follows, but I do care about peace being political instead of common sense.

Anyway, Nine for Freedom of Color.  And it is. About color. How one can always lean into another.  The peace I find in that.

an unlikely love affair.

crossing the line

And C is for Cards.  A new adventure.  I have been experimenting with different kinds of paper,  trying to get comfortable again with more work on paper.  This one holds the story of  my own self and getting out of the box I put myself in.  The desire to make new connections.

Golly, when did the ‘Ban the Bomb’ sign become something else? Or don’t the younger generation understand what it means?
Jude, I love the idea of your cards, and they will fly off your table.
Can’t wait to see the range. Good luck and best wishes.

Jude your right, peace shouldn’t be political, but it’s necessary. At 45 I still wear peace signs, and my now 16 year old does the same. We are grounded, I’m more of a free spirit, and that is why your creations speak to me.

Harmony in all aspects, I love your watercolour drawings, breaking out of the box we create for ourselves can be challenging, I would love to own a card like this, so much of a story told in a single image. Which definitley is undoubtedly your style, so never to be confused with others.

Thank-you for posting, if only to “reach out”. We are always here, following along on your journey, as you inspire ✨️ even when it may just be a few words. 🩷✌️

C is for Crochety old bat Comment:
People don’t make peace political; politicians do. If they don’t like the peace symbol they’re probably going to vote for he-who-shall-not-be-named.
Watching the tree trimmers is like an aerial dance.

Jude, I’m thrilled you are starting to sell some of your watercolors. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to scoop one up. But I’ll have to wake up really early to beat your European and East Coasters. Ha ha!

I looked up the meaning of the peace sign
Being a 60’s child, it’s love service to humanity and peace
That still works for me in our turbulent times

I love this particular patchwork featuring the peace sign surrounded by rich colors of Burnt sienna, Fuschia and a soft Yellow. For me the colors are like arrows gently helping me focus on that most important intention…Peace. I just had a happy thought of patchworks for each of my values? Another visual story of what matters to me….

I remember as a kid, our church was opposed to the peace sign because “someone” said it supposedly was “satanic” as a upside down cross with broken arms. People get such squirrely notions about the most innocent things. So glad to leave that particular world behind me and surround myself who wish each other peace in any fashion.

I’m still following peaceably along! Don’t say much but I do like your card move Jude.
The tree guys I’ve watched were all impressive, both the top downers and I watched two guys fell a 60′ tree (side branches removed) as one piece onto a 3′ path, avoiding the waymarker, bins and their truck with 2′ clearance. I heard it land and felt it through my feet from across the road.
I thought they deserved applause but felt sad for the tree.
    Glad you’ll be safer Jude.

    WOW 🤯

    PEACE-PEACE-PEACE!!

    AND &
    LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️

PS yes old school tree work is amazing! Watching them climb the trees with ease. Had to cut down 11 trees in our yard ash bores ate them to death.

What kind of people are that offended by the peace sign? And so many of them that someone with thousands of followers would notice their exit? Are they looking for hate symbols? Are they afraid of all symbols? This will roll around in my brain all day I’m afraid. Will have to make some peace symbols myself and see how many people I can chase off (in church we said “peace be with you” and responded “and also with you”)….The young tree cutters, now that’s some scary stuff to watch. We had a derecho come through here in 2009. Trees down everywhere, no power for 10 days at my house. So I watched a few young men climb trees and take them down a chunk at a time. Like right over my driveway. Amazing how swiftly they did it. And how brave to climb trees that were already so compromised. Peace be with you big tree, you were loved and gave great shelter.

  11. Really…unfollow for peace? Why am I surprised?
I love the variety of colors in this one. And the card is so Creative and a concrete way to connect! (silly, I know) No, really this card and the message are so beautiful. Love it ❤️

Had a youngin climb a 50’+ longleaf, unthered in flipflops to drop limb by limb as my mouth hung open. Peace is harmony, love and JOY to me! And to stitch an array of different colors I’m feeling “C” ommunity. Everything you touch turns to magic, a little penmanship envy here! 🤗

always feel sad when trees have to come down but sometimes if not taken down will cause great damage when they do come down.

living in nh i saw how trees could be taken down without buckets simply because often there is no room for a bucket truck on very narrow and winding streets. love watching the process. the best tree guys can do one fairly quickly.

while many still associate the peace symbol with vietnam there are other ways to think about it. it could be peace in our daily lives, our families, our community.

I really like these, for so many reasons. I, too, resonate with the ‘reaching out’ especially now as I am old, since it would be easy/comfortable to just accept my ever-diminishing circle. As for the use of a peace symbol, I always rejoice when I see it. Not political ; just common sense, yes! ❤️

  15. Love the card! Smiling…I have a plan to sneak color in with the d’s today. Once the youngest of the neighborhood gang went up a full grown Douglas Fir tree almost to the top. My dad had to go up the tree to get her down. I wonder if he remembers that…I will have to ask. Peace…so much more than a political statement.

  16. Jan Stevenson

yes, when trees here in my yard have needed to come down it is always done that way, luckily because the bucket trucks are much more expensive. I watch as they always seem to cut exactly where I would.
Symbols can be tricky things. . .that one is political, I think, and a lot of people are trying to get out of that framework for their minds and hearts. I know you don’t mean it that way.

  17. I just went over to IG and “liked” your 9 patch with the peace symbbol, because I also think peace should not be politicized. I think too much politics is toxic, and we need to be at peace and re-learn to enjoy and appreciate each other.

  18. Pam S.

Wonderful painting Jude reaching out! 💙
And I love seeing your nine patches with the Peace symbol I don’t see how anyone could take office to that.
Tree cutting noise reminds me too much of Hurricane Michael 😕
    I feel your pain!

  19. Nancy D

Funny how the lined symbol of peace has so many attachments to it. Symbols are powerful, and their attachments change with time, and experiences…Consider the Swastika. 😱
Oh, how lovely it would be to be the recipient of one of your cards!!!

  20. Jen

    Wow …
I’m glad that the tree work is being done (& yes, sad too) & so amazed by people who can just clamber around, unfazed by heights!!
C is for cutting, color, Connections ( aka “reaching out”) and carrying belongings and a cat to new (a)ccommadations 😀
