Looking North today, from the deck at the back of the house... there is a lot of wind. It's as clear as a bell. Ding!
Looks like we will be below freezing in a few hours and then way below freezing for a week or more. This cold is a bigger story than just here. I look this morning and think some trees break off and fall in the big wind, but most of them just bend and keep standing. I never noticed but I suppose the wind mostly blows from one direction here through the Valley. Look at this beautiful leaning.
Continued with Newness. I have found new energy. Who knows how that might play out? I hope it might get me back to video. Because, well, words that are not being said are also somehow embedded in a moving image.

fascinating how the seeds from so long long ago are germinating now. (it blows my mind that u were creating such drawings in high school.) the thread dots, like spores “sown”, vibrating outward in all directions… that’s “sew” u!
high school was a creative time for me, I drew instead of doing my homework, ha!
Oh, this new symbol fits in so well here! Knowing when to stop is such a practiced thing.
I love the little birds. They remind me off my walks. It brings me back to your idea about cards.
I think this newness will be very useful.
Maybe stopping is just fine at any point, maybe just finding peace with what’s there. or not. Maybe it would change day to day if expectation were removed,
a lot of my old drawings were cards actually, funny how all of that came back to me.
Love the luminosity of this Tree Self..expanding and being still…standing so full of life….and it’s promise as well.
it does sort of glow
Really love this tree self! When I first moved here, I remember going out to the trees on windy days and leaning up against them. I was surprised at how far down in the trunk I could feel the movement, it was kind of mesmerizing to close my eyes and lean with the tree.
Gosh that was like a poem
🧡
Cold so many places…we’ve broken several records. Looking at the tree this morning, the word radiant comes to mind.
and then sun comes to mind and it warms me.
Fascinating how this visual language that you speak in threads seems to have started so long ago in drawings. Like it was just always there, the way you see things. I don’t think if I looked backwards to high school artworks that I would see any connection to what I make now. But maybe that’s only because I haven’t looked. Also, French knots have let me down a bit lately, so I might have to try your dot method. It’s going to be negative and single digit temperatures here in Southern Illinois for a week too, so I should have plenty of stitch time to experiment.
I do believe the thread is there, sometimes the evolution is confusing, after all transformation can be quite drastic. But I have more to say because I have found some new clues that lead me to a longer story.
I don’t like french knots, because initially I found they didn’t wear well in a quilt that was used a lot. I like stitches that are more integrated into the surface. Try them, you can get quite a raise if you stitch over and over.
It is so cold everywhere.
Drawing is so cute! Would be great as a baby quilt 💙 and your tree just keeps getting better and better 💚
birds sitting on a chain link fence, in the schoolyard I remember.
It could work as a baby quilt, yes!
Brilliant blue skies here in SE Michigan as well but too cold to go out and walk. So tucking in with fabric and needle. I love this tree and all the meaning within it. And your little birds….so full of joy. They have started my day with a smile.
The cold forecast is extreme! I am already too cold just thinking about it, nit used to it really.
Sometimes a smile can warm me.
Oh, that Tree. So much vibrance emanating in those dark surrounds.
The Eyes, well, they speak volumes. Listen!
seems more dramatic now, adding some sparks made the blue seem deeper.
when I saw your drawing I thought, “wow, it’s the beginning of nine” … and then “poof” there it was
Ha, right? Now I see it flowing like cloth does too!
