Not a "self" expression I think to myself.
Yet then, what ever I put here has to be that , by nature. An invisible or silent straying(?) I ask myself.
I could talk about this for hours. I say that because, at this point, everything I do with cloth has so much history and then so much possibility. This a bit of cobblecloth.
But for now, I made one change...
I am ready for new journeys. My new year might really start on my birthday in February. 73! Can you imagine? If I were a tree, there would be a lot of rings by now. What if I made a quilt with a ring for each year? Or what if you did?
Things might move around here, if anything isn't working, kindly let me know.
The tarp blew off the wood pile during the rain storm. Big wind yesterday hopefully dried the wood out a bit. It's warm now, but Big Big cold is coming. I will leave it open one more day, more rain tomorrow.
Bruno and family are finally Covid free. Yay! A small journey in the planning. Oh! what if I start a quilt of yearly rings for Bruno? It might grow with him.

Love the idea of a quilt of rings …..maybe not what you meant….but the thought we are like trees with our own internal rings. 75 rings here. I’m so intrigued by this Jude. Thank you. We all give each other sparks…
that’s what the fire inside is for!
Bruno might be able to help you with that, too. I used to have Nick put colored pins in the quilts and I’d use embroidery floss to put dots on that spot. <3
I love the way your log cabin block continues growing, it's good to know things can grow.
Yeah, I think it will be a collaboration.
I’m sl oh wing diwn more, things keep changing. I like to sense the might not be an end…
Oh yes. A ring of Brunos!! Love that. I woke thinking of a quilt that I have fabric for, but never did. It is based on 10X10 squares of ‘tree’ looking fabric. I wanted to pull it out and look at it, see if it’s possible.
I love those lil traveling beasts ❤️ Don’t we all have some beasts in our travels?!!
And “no self. no where” made me feel a sadness, but that is probably more me than you.
(((hugs)))
yes, look at it!
we are the beasts!
made me feel sad but then not. there was less drama and more peace.
Covid free..oh , that’s a freeing feeling!
73 rings…what a terrific tree.:)..full of bloom, flowers and shade..
A tree among trees..:)
I like the brown/tan tucked in with the blues. Feels earthy and right. Thank you always Jude for sharing your inspiring world.
hey Cathy! Thanks for stopping by!
Loving this piece!
And those tiny beasts would look perfect stitched there💙💙💙
More storms coming here 😕 fingers crossed not as bad as the last.
It will be tricky, so tiny.
The cold is more of an issue here now.
I just “finished” a pieced denim blanket for my 3 yr old grandson, and I saw a picture of cave art with hand prints so I traced my hand print and stitched the outline. Then on Christmas I got his hand print. He loves it and I decided that I will add his hand print every year. He did his own with green color pencil and asked me to put on there too. I like that it will grow with him.
I love that he might trace his own hand, I guess they could become like rings as his hand got larger, this is all so great to think about. Growth and form.
Buddhist New Year is in February too and this year is the year of the Wood Dragon…very auspicious!!!
73 rings and growing❤️❤️❤️
Oh, thank you for this…
Or maybe shrinking, oh ha!
Quilting rings like tree rings for each year we grow as humans is going to stick with me all day I think. The many ways to approach that idea. The years not being uniform. The years that were a struggle and have some scar tissue in them. A patchwork with quilted rings? A whole cloth quilted? Oh this idea is fascinating. Hope your wood dries well before this arctic cold snap arrives.
Yes, stories are blooming!
I just checked, it will be ok. Bringing some in to speed the process…
So much that I love about the “ragmates just going.” 🙂 The beasts are perfect. Hooray for getting to see Bruno and family! A ring for each year is such a wonderful and personal idea. It reminds me of marks made on the wall for heights, to show growing… We had five minutes of wet snow yesterday. It was beautiful.
There were those grow markers on a closet door at Mom’s My brother took the door to his new place.
The moments of beauty last!
Thank you as ever, for gentle heart stirrings, Jude…
When I was 75 recently I painted 75 tree images in celebration… some were quite small! But it was a lovely way marker. Like good wine, we mellow…. Stay cosy

Oh I love that, I am imaging…
A quilt with rings for you and Bruno… love that! Got me thinking about circles within circles – our rings interweaving/circling with those we love, hmmm. Reminds me of my spiral drawings, if I ever do those again, this adds a new layer of thought/meaning to them.
And, ugh on the wood. Wind is a good helper with that, for sure. Things were just so late and discombobulated here that my wood was stacked TOO late and is damp from a wet summer. Hissing fires and I have to work at getting them really going. It’s a huge drag!
Maybe I should trace around myself as well.
I love your spirals.
Yeah wet wood is so much work.
This will dry out quickly I think. That round pile is on a hill and in a windy spot and I put a lot of spacers. I think it happened toward the end and just the top layer is really wet. Going out to check now.
Sounds promising… good luck!
Love that idea of a quilt with yearly rings! What wonderful stories it would hold, for the telling, for the sharing between you two!
what if I trace around him every year?
Oh! This idea yes!!
Right? My head is spinning.
Great idea, Jude! Like height marks on the wall, but better!
yeah, this is good!
Those tiny beasts change the whole landscape! A different perspective of each element in the piece. Wow.
Yay for travels to see Bruno!
the whole scale transforms.
Looking forward to the visit.
