A few Stray December Selves...

1968 believe it or not...

The Spirit of Spring in WinterWishing you all a peaceful transition...

How lucky we are.

This site has reopened.  A few behind the scenes things have been repaired.  A   few things may  still move around and change with the New Year.  We are unexpectedly home for the holidays.  Bruno and family have Covid and well, still, how lucky we all are.

There is no snow but I am imagining.

Warm wishes as the holidays come closer to closure. I was catch up reading many of the jewels of writers, hence you, another taking the word of Peace in her 2024.
It’s here I come for peace, quietly holding your words within often alone, trying to experiment with all your gifts of stitch too. You’re a gift always. Thxu.
Lastly I really came here to paste something I read in Kathryn Leroy’s newsletter immediately thinking of you. I’ll leave it and send warmest of wishes of PEACE to you Jude. Carla

Look at the silver lining, they say.
    But what if, instead,
    I pluck it off
and use that tensile strand to bind
myself to those things I do not
    want to lose sight of.

Families knit together by evening walks,
    board games, laughter.
The filament fixing us to friends
    no matter the distance apart.
A braid of gratitude for small kindnesses.
The thin gauge wire of loss.

    Let me twist that lining
    around my finger,
    its silvery glint a reminder
of just how quickly life can change.
I will remember to love more.
I will remember to give more.

I will remember to be still.

I will knot the string tightly.
    So it won’t slip away.
    So I won’t forget.

I recently finished Katherine May’s new book “Enchanted: Awakening Wonder in an Anxious Age.” Some parts resonated more than others but what meant the most was something she said about “community” as a podcast guest:

…when we’re talking about enchantment, I think that that magic can only be woven between people because otherwise it dissipates so fast. And you need other people to hold it for you in the moments when it’s floating away for you and you can anchor it other times. But there’s, you know, there’s so much beauty and complexity. And communities are complex and they put us in the way of complex people with complex views.

While the specific community she was referring to in the conversation was a church congregation, I immediately thought of the blogging community I have discovered through Jude. I could post this on quite a few additional blogs but since you are all here…I won’t be repetitive.

This is the community that has sustained me and my belief in wonder and the possibility of magic in the everydayness of life over the past many years. I read your posts and the comments more than I respond but that doesn’t lessen how much I value you all and what you have added to my life.

So thank you Jude for creating this community – thank you all for sharing your lives, thoughts and beautiful work and thus keeping enchantment alive for so many.

Wishing you all an enchanting new year!

Love and peace to you in this transitional time of the year!
Very, very, fortunate and grateful to be here. Regrouping and rearranging are in progress.

I hope your loved ones soon feel better Jude. Covid is everywhere! At my grandson’s small school nine out of sixteen people caught it, including him and then his mum, dad and sisters. We three also caught it. My husband was to blame, because of his Santa shenanigans! I’m feeling tired and cooped up, but also fortunate.

Wishing peace to you & your family, Jude! Thank you SO much for being here, and for all that you share with us. No snow on the high desert of central Oregon, either, but it’s cold here . . . looking forward to the New Year & the return of the light.

Rough for the little guy and his parents. May their Covid be mild and soon over because Nana needs to tell more stories in cloth and in words to little Bruno cause a whole new year is coming…. Quiet joys to you Jude, and the man.

May the Spirit of all that is good be with you and the man as the Light returns! A speedy recovery to your family!!
