Just Living

Well, it snowed all day yesterday, and it rained all night.

There is still so much snow here, the difference is it has an iced crust on top.

Happy on snow

You can walk on top of it.  I named this squirrel Happy.  Eats from my hand. Hard to take a picture of that.

Happy in a tree

Sun will come out, very warm temperatures this week. Mud boots ready. The shift has taken hold.  The Cardinals told me. Not the best audio, I was naked by the door at 6 AM. Turn up the sound.

This is a cloth called Remember

I'm alive. I feel that today. It's been a while since I felt the energy in that.

I really enjoyed Dee's post yesterday. The honesty resonated with me.  It helps when story is shared.  It is reassuring.

What if sharing is a kind of unpacking?

Jude~ Such beauty here…the environment, the cloth, you…I chuckled at the ‘naked at the front door’ image. A squirrel friend, a cat friend, things to make and do- who has time to dust the stairs.
“Relaxed” is a big word, right? I mean not just physically, but mentally/emotionally…relaxed and with energy. I like it.
I agree with Dee (and yes, her post is amazing) in that it depends what and why we are “curating”. I’ve taken to disappearing things out of a photo that are not what I saw, not what I was focusing on because it tells the story better. Also, there are things to curate because they are not for the whole world to see/know. My opinion. But, I will of course think on this some more.
Thanks for the reminder of your rolodex, this strong, Native feeling cloth and bird song, a rich life indeed.

yes, telling a story is a kind of curating if there is a certain focus. I guess there are all kinds of stories. And reasons for telling them. Still I keep thinking about the fear of being real. I have that sometimes. Fear may be curated into us…
that rolodex reminds me of grace.

Jude~ Mmmm?…Perhaps we have some sort of innate fear of being real. Thinking. Could this be built in for protection, survival? But, in the modern times, that survival can often be based on being accepted, well-liked etc. which gives us a leg up on survival? Still thinking.
I have dreamed of a rolodex filled with art. One day, perhaps.

We all have a self image thing. Spending more time alone has given me new eyes.
A rolodex is a bit like a book. I like your dream.

So glad that you posted the link to your friend’s letter to self. And thanks so much for the recording of the cardinal! so appreciate you standing there naked to get that!

I LOVE the un-edited photo! It tells a beautifully detailed and more complete story of your life and your work than we normally get to see. The way the two (your life and your work) are interwoven is so visually apparent to me when I look at this.
I packed a lot of my self away for decades…put things on the back burner as it were. It’s overwhelming to sit with the enormity of it…the whole forest for the trees thing is paralyzing.
After decades of moving from place to place, curating and re-organizing everything sitting…waiting….on that back burner I’m choosing another option: Turn the burner on! I need the space physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. .I’m tired of being haunted in life by the ghosts of selves past. I want my freedom.

ps…the rags at the edges of the stairs are my favorite element in your picture!

      Debra~
“I’m tired of being haunted in life by the ghosts of selves past. I want my freedom.” – Thank you for this.

sometimes i find that interesting images are created by simply using the past as a layer. It’s always there, might as well make use of it. design mending.
      cloth has so many uses!

  4. Thanks for linking to my post Jude and for honoring it, in a way. That gets to part of the power of these platforms. There is a way that others can help us feel seen and heard. As I listen to you talk about curating, I realized it’s like editing and maybe it’s okay. Or at least maybe it’s less gross if you’re not out for fame and glory. Maybe the questions for most ordinary folk are: “what are you hiding and leaving out and why,” rather than a flat “why are you tinkering with you photos.” I like the idea of unpacking. It’s mechanical and lacks ego. “Oh, here’s this and oh! now look at this.” Energized and relaxed is a wonderful way to feel, particularly in spring. Glad you feel that way.

Oh and I got such a kick out of the image of you standing naked at the front door recording a cardinal song!!

  5. Nice to see that big cloth, so different from what’s happening in your work now, but also not. Also, love the Rolodex! Crusty snow here, too. And the sun is out and everything is dripping, falling off the roof, and the birds are singing. A day to get out for errands while there’s a sunny day as it looks rainy, snowy, icy for a few days ahead.

You, like the slumbering earth beneath your feet, are yawning…stretching…awaking from the long sleep of winter! Reach! Grow! Bask in the coming spring sunlight!
