October Self

Here.

A bit frazzled but present. A witness in the age of assholes. The new pandemic.

some of Deb's hand dyed cloth just happened to rise to the top of the basket.

It's taken me a week to get from here. To there. →

But hey,  time often seems to stand still, but it is suddenly October.  And then some.  It's a good time to tell the story.  Tell it.

Found this image while trying to gather some old files...and now considering how timeless thoughts are.

Love your old file’s mystery, and especially the singing cat. My Blakely, (named by a fellow Humane Society volunteer’s toddler who couldn’t pronounce Blackie) sings, although her voice is not the most melodious. Perhaps I’ll steal your idea and do a bead a pillow featuring Blakely as the singing cat. Perhaps you’d authorize the use so I wouldn’t have to be a thief?

the softness of the time-worn cloths. how the frayed edges ‘n hand-dyed colors meld into one another so gently. the “weaver-lyness” of it. like the story of your cottage. how some layers needed to be added ‘n others removed to reveal the soul of it. a tender process…

Came across a quote today attributed to French textile artist, Adeline Contreras: “The thread breathes, it draws the air between things.” I thought of you, Jude, immediately.

(((Jude))) love how the threads of our lives grow stronger with how you are telling the stories, stitching a way through to the heart of the matter

Timeless thoughts … Recently had a friend send me some letters that I had handwritten to her back in the 1980s. And there I was. In essentials, the same me as I am now. Fascinating.

Age of assholes and the personal perspective on that. The world has become full of extremes, smothering human goodness. Holding hope becomes weighty. Dad was right, there is nowhere to be found, a mirage synonymous with where. Just going.. to where? Who knows

  7. The moon was huge on the horizon yesterday on my way to work. I thought about how I wanted to hold on to how beautiful it was but knew a picture with the phone couldn’t do it. Knew I might just have to hold it in my mind. This gives the sense of the magic I saw…. Thinking a lot about how we need to find things to hold on to.

Love your acerbic wit ( have sent the quote to friends priceless) am sad for what is happening to you guys , beyond belief .My heart goes with you .Beautiful stitching ,and as my ex used to say “What’s time to a pig ?’ an Irish saying apparently .

Happy that you’re ‘there’ Jude and inspiring as always! Is the cat’s body the upper part of a sock? Maybe not but it’s given me the idea to use the top of an old sock of my daughter’s for mending an old comforter of hers. Thinking out of the box…Happy October.

I am going to guess that the scrap you used for the cat is one of Deb’s beautiful hand dyes. I just bought some of her scraps. She gets the dots of color just right.
