loose idea

It's raining.

I'll stop bitching about that.  The robins are having a great morning.  Worms have surfaced.  Probably they are all singing. "It's raining!!!"

There are frogs on the porch.

I have begun the journey through my loose pages.   I am just starting somewhere, and going.  This one was on top as I opened Box#1.

It never really had a title.  Today I will call it

There Are So Many Ways

Seems like a peaceful gathering.  This drawing done way back in the late 60s.  I think I was 18.  Funny how it fits to the day.

Still mulling over the best way to publish my Loose Pages.

It looks like a mini-protest march. Here in Portland ME all the characters were out and happy. Many in costumes and all with signs. There ARE so many ways.

A path leading to or from? Are they waiting to go through the portal or have they just arrived emerging out of the passage way ? Either way I can imagine a delightful story! Your whimsical characters resonate with me, a childlike innocence, embracing “come as you are, all are welcome”. It’s a comforting message- we’re all in this together and it’ll be ok. I love the “thread” of your spirit Jude, that weaves through everything you share… Thank you for again brightening my day!

There is simply that hole in the paper, I love that idea for a page, maybe it could be one thing on one side and then something else on the other.
I have to hold on to joy, it slips away sometimes but not for long. It contains the seeds for going.

You are truly blessed being born with your own individual artistic identity. I almost feel that I could see your style and heart even with my eyes closed. It emanates and has such heart–joyful no matter the story.

It’s a very hopeful image. Made me smile. And yes, somehow you need to put your “other” art into a shareable form. Maybe a book of short stories, A happy story a day, if you have 365 drawings.
And frogs. A frog choir. I love it.

I fear it may be way more than that but we’ll see. I am leaning toward book form.
So many frogs here, all shapes and sizes.

I see it in book form as well. Something joyful for the eyes and something clever and/or instructive in a literary way. It’s time for a new Beatrix Potter.

                Go for it.
I’d browse through the bookstore and see what catches your eye as far as format is concerned, although I think you probably will know what is best for your material.
I was a feature writer and copy editor for a daily newspaper for 30 years. While I doubt that you need someone to read your copy, a second set of eyes is always a good idea. When we read our own copy, our brain tends to compensate for us, so a final read by a new set of eyes before sending off to a publisher is always a good idea. I also always suggest reading something aloud to feel the flow of the words.
There used to be a reference book at most libraries with a list of editors, publishers and agents and their requirements. And I must mention one vitally important thing, don’t self-publish unless you can afford to hire someone to go out and sell your book for you.
                Onward and upward.

  5. Jude~ Love this! Great timing for this one to resurface. I wanted to enlarge and study every line…so full of color and character and celebration. xo

Love this picture. So much to study . It looks like a sudden stop to the march and they have bumped into each other ! 🤣

This is how we gather, how we march, dancing down the road, all of us, rainbows of color and form, the true heart of America! This morning I added a No Kings sign to my Hands Off Democracy sign that is planted in my large pot, containing a baby Colorado blue spruce tree. The pot sits in front of our apartment complex. I pulled up a chair next to the pot and stitched my meditation scroll; a scroll made up of every kind of windfall that I found in New Mexico. I like to think of this scroll as a banner of diversity that I could hold when I joined your happy gathering, dancing down the street!

What an imaginative painting, as is all of your textile work. It makes me happy, which I do need. I imagine this in a children’s publication where the child is asked to find and name the different little animals.

I love your drawings! I’ve decided your style in all things is in your dna – recognizeable from the beginning to now. Re: your comment on how your drawing “fits to the day” – a short story- my dad was the editorial cartoonist for our small town newspaper from the 60’s to the 80’s. I photographed them from the old newspapers and “self-published” a book with all of them (800 or so). I marveled at how history keeps repeating itself – many still relevant to today. He signed them as “Snick” so he wouldn’t lose his day job teaching high school art. 😊

It definitely does still fit to this day! Joy and diversity—or, rather, joy IN diversity— is tantamount to a beautiful World! 🌍
P.S. Frogs/toads on your porch? How fortunate you are!!!

      Such a perfect find today.
      The drawing.
The frogs. Resting under a wood stack in a dark corner where the rain leaks in.
