Becoming unsure

This is the pond.

I've been walking mostly.  The ice is melting.  I haven't been here long enough to know what goes on here. The southwestern tip of the property. The stone wall marks the boundary.

And another view  of the house.  There is a back porch which is currently sealed off because of the need to repair the back door and the roof where the mice were getting in.  I do like the red.  Has me thinking.

My phone stopped working here for some reason, been spending a lot of time trying to figure that out.  And the internet, not so good.  It feels like spring, but there is snow coming.  As it will, I am sure, on and off for a while.

I feel confused.  A lot of paths have opened up.  Not sure which one to take.

I saw a robin though.

I found this when I woke up, the tail was in the kitchen.

I drew this, at least it's something...

So yeah, I'm here.  Didn't get to the shop update,  haven't done the laundry,  didn't sleep well.  But I'm in good company.  We are looking forward to frogs.

  1. Aawe! Soul-o Loves you, he brings you good food to cheer you up!
A child is good, they keep us honest and humble and engaged.
Frogs are better they will remind you the spring is coming, even if it is delayed a little. One day you will sleep to frogsong, the sun will peek out from behind the clouds and the weather will warm.
    Time will speed up again.
This year will be unpredictable, I think, not just DC but everywhere.
I have felt it’s pull for a few years now, a shift in the world, the start of a new journey, a mixed bag.
Find your happy snacks and dine on them, for the time when they are hard to find.

Yes, season is a whole new journey now, but we are still going. I’m glad to have some land and what grows here to take good care of the best I can.

Robins, Red doors and rodents, there is a lot going on.
At least you have a protector with Soul-O, my cat did the same last week, nothing like waking up to half a mouse?🐁
The Red door is known for good luck, the fact it was there the whole time…

Robins bring us messages… to me it’s always
been hope, as they are so fragile but they are so resilient for such a little bird that is so pretty.
Bruno, what a cutie, kids have a way of bringing magic✨️ and wonder into our all too serious adult world.
Like Bruno, I can’t wait to see the frogs 🐸

oring Jude… great to have your post for my wake up!! Loved meeting Bruno and ohh, the mouse… well we live in country areas and that is just what it is. Hurray to Soul-O!
I love the red door and hope once spring comes along and things settle in after the rains and snow, you have lots of walking/hiking time with your grandson…
    Take care. Get rest!

I just love it when one day…
    magically,
the frogs just start. I don’t know how they know or what the signal is and I welcome the mystery.
May you be at ease with your uncertainty at least 51% of the time. 🙂

  5. Judy

Oh Jude, magical is what it is. the house, the cabin, the red…all of it. That’s what I think and then I realize how challenging it is for you in reality, making it work, fixing, all of the glitches. Thank you for sharing all of it including Soul-o and Bruno. I still think back so many years ago to when I found your blog. Alternately on ice, then heat, unable to sit for more than 5 mins, laying on the floor reading your blog healing my injured back and my stitching life changed! Thanks to you I hand pieced and quilted 2 lap quilts à la Jude (standing at the ironing board)! It’s been such fun! Thank you again, many times.

Every time I see a pix of your home the word that instantly comes to mind is magical, and now the red door. It just doesn’t get any more wonderful. And then to balance it the red outer building (I forgot what you are calling it), just perfect. And to top it all off, young Bruno. What a cutie patootie. There is so much wonder for you and Bruno to explore. I check your shops everyday for the preview preview of your stitched heart. LOLOL

Hello from me lurking in the background in Australia. I believe that that red is the chinese lucky colour for front doors. (Maybe all doors) I’ve used it myself .
It’s autumn here but the weather is still grand…apart from the recent cyclone of course.
I start my morning with your news and photos. Sets me up nicely for the day
    Thankyou

Oh, yes, you are right! Cool!
I’m trying to be present more but I am very distracted with the change in season. Maybe you will enjoy red leaves!

Jude~ Does the pond freeze for skating? It looks like a wonderland for you, Soul-O and Bruno! J. says he looks like a 1960’s British Spy 😂 I love his Hamster Cheeks! So adorable.
Love this view of the house with its pop of red!

It does! Skates are on the list.
So funny really, we were out for brunch and he took mama’s sunglasses, everyone was laughing but he kept that stone face.
I didn’t remember the outsides of the doors were red. Love the look.

  9. Best of company! A pond (a looking glass)! I heard frogs the other day, I love them. More red would look amazing I think. Decisions…I need to make some too.

  10. Ha. I had a good smile when Bruno’s photo popped up! Looks about the same here, mushy ground, puddles, and occasional mouse parts, but no adorable Brunos to crack me up!

  11. Juliann

I bet he would love a wee science kit to investigate the teeming life in the pond. Wait until there are frog eggs. He will be ecstatic. I love curious children; so many questions to answer. I know this has been a hard move for you, but so joyful to be with family.

  12. Lee Eskin

Sadly Bruno may speak for all of us.
    Is he still sleeping?
So happy you have Soulo keeping guard.
Have you considered a dog for long outside walks?
    Stay warm.

He sleeps well, we were talking about hiding.
Dog? Might be nice for me but my cat would not be happy. And Bruno has a cat too

  13. Maria Armstrong

Looks like you’re settling in Jude . Getting to know your surrounds .
Bruno looked like he is real character 💖🌸
I love those little ones .. our are little characters as well .
All the very best Jude . Wishing you well 💚

  14. Discovery is at the core of this post. For you, SoulO, and Bruno. What an adventure! Love the long look at the house.
I’m sure Bruno will be a keen observer.

  15. Marilee

Oh, his little face is so adorable. Bruno’s, not the mouse. The word should get out in the mouse community pretty soon that The Round House is a dangerous place to visit. It all looks so serene, can hardly wait to see it in the spring.

  16. I was enjoying all of the pictures (that porch has alluring possibilities), but when I came to the solemn face in sunglasses I laughed out loud. You are in great company.

  17. Brenda

Hi love the porch with its red door
When repaired and screened in, it will be a wonderful place to sleep in the summer you may even need a blanket then

    • Pam S.

I didn’t sleep with the severe thunderstorm we had around 1am … feeling zombie like slowly trying to do some hand quilting 😵
Bruno will keep you going! Have fun and relax in your beautiful setting. 🏡🌳🦌🐸
Have a good day Jude! 💙🕊️

        • Pam S.

I know the feeling… we had crazy strong winds from the storm that’s now headed your way!
Even ear plugs in I could still hear all the trees and scrubs whipping around! I hope it’s weakened. 🤞🏼🤞🏼💙

  18. Pam

Love that Soulo left you a gift, the choicest part of the mouse. My cat once left the gift of a mouse corpse by the side of my bed. But she had eaten the head.

  19. Dee

I love that view of the tree line and pond. How interesting to be this age and be so new, yes? If my boys are any indication, Bruno will be thrilled with tadpoles, ants, frogs, and yes, dead rodents.

    • jude

It’s a lovely spot. Need a new path between it and the house. Bruno loves the pond. Fun summer times to come. Maybe the water will be good for dyeing, spring fed…

  20. Joan Hinchcliff

Thanks for the big smile, Bruno looks so serious but then you add the sunglasses indoors and it automatically made me smile. Love the drawing and the property but not so much what I am assuming is a mouse. I lived with mice in our last home, I know they need a place to live, I would just prefer not inside our homes. Enjoy your walks and I look look forward to learning about your new property as you share your explorations with us.

  21. Judith

You are in good company with a small boy and a mighty hunter. I believe in the path of least resistance, at least to start. Then, who knows…..

  22. Nancy D

    Yay for Frogs! I love Bruno’s cheeks…and s
Such a strong name for such a little guy…😊
What is the Cat wearing…a straightjacket?
Your Pond is a mirror!! 🪞
    Disjointed response.

    • jude

I love the first frog songs on warm nights.
Those cheeks run in the family.
The cat is hugging itself. Although I do feel a bit unstable.
      The pond is so clear.
