Make Believe Sun Day

maybe 9?

There has been no Sun. No sunshine that is.

Only rain, with a few clouds in between.  It rained so hard last night I couldn't sleep. Been stitching some sun. Practicing making my own, I like to have some on hand.  The first one had begun to celebrate the sun being out which lasted  just long enough to think about it.  The other two, just to try the circle two other ways. The first was stitched over a loose dyed patch. The second around an applique  and the third, reverse applique over some dyed silk where the snowflake pattern didn't quite come out as expected.  The have a different look and a different feel. I didn't get to the part where I ask what if the Sun isn't round?

Rain, too much rain, but it's warm.

The man here needed some hat repair. I threaded the needle, He said, it's ok I'll do it.

the man with the beautiful hands...I made some calendula tea, it seemed sunny.

what if the sun was square?

    Sun, YES please!
I try to be outside as much as possible (no matter how cold) when the sun appears. So appreciated when its not always “on hand”. Well, that really goes for everything right? Weather, food, people!! 🙂 ect.
I will stitch some suns for myself.
And i love to see men sewing. There is one around me too.

Yes, everything, how quickly we ease into stuff, accept it as a given.
Sewing is useful, we should all know know the basics… like carpentry, just learning that…

We’ve had spots of sun off and on the past few days, but it rained 24 hours yesterday and last night, then this morning, SUNSHINE squeezing in around my bedroom window shade on the east side of the house, and totally blinding when I raised the shade. Not complaining, though, just squinting until it moved a bit to the south side of the house.
Your pocket suns are so happy looking, even the copper one. I bought a packet of Indigo dye. Going to try my hand at it. I haven’t done any fabric dying since my daughter’s 6th grade class did a project in conjunction with a trip to The Renaissance Faire. And she’s in her 50s, now. Wish me luck. Might pick up some other colors, too, and sort through some lace scraps to do, as well. Deb Lacativa makes it look like fun.

    Such a simple, needed thing.
We are warm and sunny, but super windy! We are projected for rain later in the week.
Sirens around here have gone nuts! Wonder what’s happening? In the wind, it is extra concerning.

Nothing but gray drizzley days for weeks on end. Perhaps making some suns will brighten my mood. I like seeing your techniques; makes me think of how many ways I might make some.

For many years I lived in a place where we would go 2 or 3 weeks at a time without seeing the sun – it was really difficult. I used artificial light to trick my body into a normal routine, but it didn’t help my mind & spirit. Now I live where there is more sunshine, and the quality of the light is different too. Brighter, clearer. I love your suns & that you made them on a cloudy day!!

love when the sun makes an appearance. as tho to say, “i’m here. even when u can’t see me…” has the man ever attempted patchwork? he seems quite comfortable with needle ‘n thread…

I love when I see it melting the clouds as if to say here I come. But not today.
No, he only repairs things. He is from Turkey. Unlike here, boys are taught to sew as part of early education.

    Wetland here too,
    The climate soooo personal, yes!
The atmospheric pressure replicates in my old body,

    Making sun. That’s nice.
    ✌️

  8. So much rain here too… Made me smile that you are making suns and I am making clouds. I was thinking of technique yesterday…managing layers in particular.

  9. after days of much-needed rain, the sun is forecast to shine us into the 60s this coming week … I have every intention of sitting outside to soak it up, juniper pollen be damned (achoo)

as for sun shapes, eclipse forms come to mind (which are quite different from moon phase forms) … fingers crossed that our skies will be clear when the April eclipse comes to town

yeah, funny how climate issues can be so personal. Just when it warms up here, achoo…
I think we will be in a good spot for the eclipse. How exciting!

Love those suns. I could use some of them around here—– grey, rainy, but at least it’s not as frigid as the past 10 days or so. The sun in the middle gives me the impression of a witch riding past on her broomstick.

Thanks for posting and explaining your three sun techniques side by side. Easier to see each difference. Your works is so amazing

Dare I say it…the Sun is shining brightly here through my kitchen door window, after days of fog and rain…it makes me realize those little panes need cleaning! Your colorful pocket Suns are so cheerful, Jude, handmade cures for the dreary day.

it’s been a dark month. surely i might be complaining when the hot no rain season shows up. but who knows. pocket cloth comes in handy. as well as pocket sized dreams.

We are such strange beings; we need a lack of something to truly appreciate it. I shall be.out there dancing when the sun reappears….
