Torn

keep looking at the same thing and see something different.

I am playing with an idea about regeneration. Based on  wandering.

I have already wandered from seam to torn.  From holding together to coming apart.

And here I am explaining again.

encouraging change

I want to work from each of the nine drawings from yesterday's post.  One at a timeLooking and then not looking. Generate a new image from the old impression.  Nine times I thought I might try.  These are the first 2.  I intended to draw  but I ended up on cloth.  It's all drawing I say to myself... it's all drawing to me, what I construct, build from thought.  It depends on what materials are close to me.  Where the comfort of connection is.  Between mind and body.  I think even dancing is drawing. I convey information about a thought in physical form.  As you can see, I have wandered quite far already.

The power was out most of the night.  This morning, deep fog.

this morning's wandering

Using each new image as a base,  here, maybe, torn as an opportunity for release.

  1. The left one seems very vaginal to me; the right, more aggressive, visceral.
I like these figures and their personalities.
My first impression was the left one is wearing some very cool bell bottom pants.
    Charming all.

those words… “generate a new image from the old impression”… YESSS!!! and “dancing is drawing”… your words make me FEEL like dancing! they nurture the creative soul in a profound way. that’s what i see in the last pic. a receiving rather than a releasing. thank u, dear jude! x

  3. These beasts are beautiful and feel really different somehow. I love both iterations, but I am really captivated by the open seams, something really profound there… when the seams are open, the fragility of the cloth is SO clear, just a skin, as we are.

Yes, seams are a big part of cloth language. I love how a ripped seam displays the thread of the cloth and the thread that holds it. These were cut before I thought torn, so more work to depict that…and thoughts of cut as well.

I was first thinking shedding a skin, then opening self, then as you said release. This exploration of torn could go in so many directions.

Oh HO! I love these—love each transition!
This is really cool…I love the idea of release and all the explorations of!
And you draw on cloth–so it’s all ONE.
    I love fog.
We’ve had lots of pouring rain all night and now THUNDER!

thare are many steps we don’t always focus on them.
I am seeing the thinking as a drawing now. The lines from brain to hand…
Rain, fog, it is very wet here right now, but it is above freezing!

Enjoying watching the transition from paper to fabric. Reminds me the importance of thoughts on paper. My sketchbook is probably lonely and my thoughts are scattered.

    Good morining..
The stitching with the addition of flowing fabric..
When I glance at the moon behind the character ..at the elbo.. my eyes
see a moon with down turned eyes , nose and mouth a image of reverence.

  8. “torn” as depicted in these images has such visceral meaning in my life … both positive and negative … likewise torn cloth can have two meanings (at least) … clothing inadvertently caught on something sharp and torn … or cloth intentionally torn into strips to become something new when joined with needle and thread
