one Thing

Yesterday,

on Instagram, I posted a little video, because it was easy just to capture a few moments.  And I said:

If there is one thing I have learned over the years,
it is to leave your edges open,
because form evolves.
And fringe is my symbol for continuing.

I know I have said that before, but in the context of layers,  the natural build up of layers in collage type work is a covering up process, but I love interrupting that  by inserting  pieces in between.  It sort of gives the moments in between a second chance. Allows me to consider the time between this and that, as another space to play with.  Time travel so to speak.

I have the habit of running my fingers around patches checking for openings that might be needing stitch to hold everything down, because I often forget which ones I left unlocked.  Many new forms have been born there.

always, to be continued

an open place

Today, I am here,  with thoughts of adding a figure, but then not.  Calling this one

As If Time Could Stand Still

For now.

And then the back, the other side, the map we often cover up.  I love to look to see how it formed.

I almost want to stitch these words here.

(The rain drops , beeswax batik on silk, by T, some of you remember, she's around somewhere, I hear from her now and then... but it's been a while)

I love that concept as it applies to so much in life, in opinions, leave your edges open, leave your heart open, leave your thoughts open…learn more, look for new ways to do or be or think. Just wonderful Jude. Thank you.

  2. Sometimes I want to weep with the sheer beauty here…your words/images, their deeper meaning, the comments of others and your response…all of this is why I’ve traveled here in this Spirit World all this time. The wisdom in your response to Grace…maybe I should tattoo that on my forehead! Ha
Your words: “because I often forget which ones I left unlocked.”…led me right to a favorite quote of mine, which I think works well for cloth and life. Cloth is life.
    Love this ‘map’ 🙂

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” ~ Rilke

I spent several very happy hours watching your videos and reading blog posts yesterday, and felt all the better for it. I popped a few coins in, to let you know how much I appreciate that you doll this for free.

The raindrops look like sperm to me. Another kind of seed. Certain seeds have adapted to growing in scorched earth, bringing it back to life. Maybe the next generation will be that seed for our planet.

One thing becoming, leaning into another, and everything becomes everything and all the worry becomes much to do about nothing

Mind-bending, the idea of leaving edges open. I am so oriented to stitching everything down. Says something about me, eh? I will consider leaving some edges open because I love the idea of inserting something in between. I learn so much from you!

If course the glue stitch is easily reversible… pulls right out and eay to catch if you use the long stitches on the back .

The beautiful elements composed here are speaking to this Californian deeply missing rain. A prayer cloth for listening as much as beseeching, for gratitude and awareness of our complicity and our mutuality, our dependence on mother earth and each other. Thank you for your work and your words.

ha! such a BIG life lesson… “leave your edges open”! those 4 lines you posted with the video would make a great intro to the book for which we’re all hoping. just sayin’… X

  8. Thought i recognized that rain 🙂 (Could surely use some right now here in Alberta…) I haven’t heard from T in awhile either–hoping she’s good and happy.
