Love the addition of the bird to the line of trees and the diversity of trees. There are so many beautiful things that grow in the shade (indigo will grow fine in partial shade).
I like the scale of the bird too, it feels free.
I’ll grow indigo in pots for now.
There is some sunny areas further from the house and also up by the cabin. A lot of brush and overgrowth. I’ll get there if I live long enough…😂
That seems a little bit like my joke that I’ll never have the garden I really want until I can retire. 🙂

Love your stitched trees Jude. A sustainable forest is one where responsible owners cut trees down for many reasons, one of them being the safety of the people who live in or near the forest. Jude is pretty responsible as far as I can tell.
I had a great compliment from someone walking down the road the other day. He said, I love your property, it looks like noone lives here.

Your trees and the wing-ed one are beautiful Jude. Trees, yes, I have my favourites too, the Mamas I call them, keeping the forest network going as best as they can. A friend shared that if she were still working and had to declare her preferred pronouns, hers would be ‘she/tree’. Me too.

Jude~ The bird…a perfect addition to your beautiful trees! I have my long history of neighbors disappearing trees – totally out of my control and not for good reasons…but I also have my history of a huge pine limb falling on my house, righ above me as I slept and a giant old oak splitting apart and taking out power and much more very early one morning…so I guess I land somewhere in the middle. Safety first, eh? 😉

Yes Safety and some forest management for firewood. And clean up from careless dumping. A big tree can do a lot of damage in a storm, and the storms have been getting worse as we all know.
The best tree work I’ve experienced was done by immigrants, mostly from South America, I hope they are safe from this wave of cruelty.
Yes for trees! The Old Oak here is one of my greatest teachers ever!

I’ve always lived among big Oaks.
Here Oak is absent and it is mostly Maple and Cherry and many evergreens near the house. Some old Apple and Hawthorne.
Trees are very special beings in my life. I cry every time I hear the tree cutting machines especially when healthy trees are cut down for no reason. They are so vulnerable they can’t run away. Without them we won’t be here. I have many tree friends, some are gone already but still and always in my heart. One tree friend even told me in a dream that she will be gone the day before they cut her down.
I haven’t met all of them here yet. New paths need to be made.

(((Jude))) I lived in the rainforest with a man who built our handmade house next to a mature twin trunked Blue Gum. I loved that tree it was well over 100 foot tall, one day a big branch dropped right next to his ute and grazed his shoulder as he was unloading after work. The next day he cut
down the tree… that was the beginning of the end of that relationship.
It’s hard to cut the big ones. There is one here leaning i to the roof. A not so old cherry. It’s not healthy. The rest would give me light for a garden, I’ll just forage…trying to break free of my suburban habits 😂
Just be very careful when climbing that old tree, ask your son to hold the ladder and just cut off small lengths slowly and carefully! Speaking from experience, a couple of weeks ago I was getting a bit too brave and tried to cut a branch overhanging the neighbours fence, my foot slipped, grabbed a branch to slow the fall (about 3 metres up) and scrambled back down! Will cut it very cautiously today.

I cannot count the times I’ve clambered up and down a ladder since living here, these days I rely on professionals when it comes to chopping trees….
a friend of mine was killed by the tree he was cutting. Fell right on him.

It is a lot of work, and especially if a bucket truck is needed. But eeek!
Yes…ours is going to cost $3,000…for one tree! They’ll use a lift and STILL have to climb to the top to rig ropes…
